Are anandtechers mostly liberal, or are there just more libs in P&N?

I notice anytime there is a poll in here, the libs overwhelmingly have the majority of the votes.

So either:

A) Anandtech is mostly liberal,

or

B) all the conservatives stay out of P&N

thoughts, opinons on this?

Yeah I'd say a bit of both. However I know a couple of ATers that are very liberal and they avoid this board like the plague.

I would guess that the demographics that a computer tech forum would attract would be more liberal...especially with the number of college students.

Probably a bit of both, but given the overall demographics of young people (which is what most of AT is) and the internet in general, I'd say it's more likely there are just more liberals here...which of course tends to run off the conservatives who can't handle being the minority 😉

EDIT wow this thread is going good and dont want to start a quote war.

But this has been brought up in AT LEAST 10 other threads in just the last month

All the conservatives are out shooting their next meal, at a christian rock concert, or don't have regular computer access.

Sadly, you are wrong on all 3 accounts.

1) I don't own a weapon and I hate the taste of wild game.
2) Christian music sucks.
3) I have constant Internet access from my home from two computers connected to a high-speed Internet connection.

Try again. 😉

I think you misread, I was pointing out how the some liberals here think anyone who votes for bush is dumb, traditional, a redneck, or a born again christian.

Tiles2Tech, I'm all about compromise.

I just get mad and my zealous side comes out when I see one sided comments that aren't well thought out. But yeah is your blood red by chance?

Actually, I think it's the belief of most Liberals here that the Conservatives squarely fall into those 3 areas.

Yup, pure red. Donated plenty of it to see the color. 🙂

I don't know if being tech oriented has anything to do with it. In contrast to the recent idea floated around here that educated city dwellers vote Democrat, the 15 person IT department I'm the lead developer for in Minneapolis has only two Democrats, the rest are Republicans or independent.

I'm curious, Do you subscribe to Bush's more religious overtones or are you more of a classic republican?

I keep great distance from Bush's religious overtones.

Answer these two questions:

What's a liberal?

What's a conservative?
You won't get a straight answer, because they honestly don't know. The libs will preach compassion and diversity while the cons will talk about old homey values and The Flag, but otherwise they have no clue except one voted for Kerry and the other for Bush.

Anyway, there are a lot of Bush voters in P&N. There used to be even more but a few of them had this habit of just spamming thread after thread of meaningless rhetorical propaganda from dubious sources (things like "Kerry ate a baby in Vietnam") until the entire page would be filled with nothing but these threads. Then they would defend this questionable propaganda as though it were gospel, but their idea of a debate was to be as insulting and offensive as possible, as though arguments are won simply by yelling. Because of this, I left P&N, as decent debate had simply become impossible. But then the mods saw the wisdom to ban the offenders, and the board became a place where people could discuss again.

I've heard that more converatives used to hang out here before - but the libs ran 'em out of town.
Pussies. 😛😉 j/k

I can give you a portion of the historical overview. Long before P&N, even before OT as we know it, AT was dominently conservative. Would you ever gainsay Russ? Neither would I. Now, I was a relative latecomer to P&N, but it was more conservative when I first arrived, possibly a 50/50 split (CAD or conjur could better say). Before that, as I understand, the conservatives dominated.

Over time, (possibly given the war and other Bush follies, but that's pure opinion) it migrated to it's present approximately 70 - 30 liberal pro liberal skew.

Search a few political posts in OT and you will see that, at least amongst the politically vocal members there, there are far more conservatives. Now look at the Presidential "exit poll" here. You will see that the otherwide 70-30 liberal P&N split was probably mitigated by politically aware but non P&N denizens coming in to vote, which is why it ended up more on the order of 3-2 pro Kerry, IIRC.

Bear in mind, though, that politics and the individuals that hold political opinions are generally more complex than the labels we try to give them, and that not a few Kerry voters would tell you they are "true" conservatives disgusted by Bush, etc., etc, ad infinitum.

I see it more of 2 ways, you are a traditional republican that does not seek to mix religion and politics and one that does. As far as being a redneck, chrisitan, or "dumb???" I see that is irrelevant.
