:p
A hypothetical paradox: what would happen in a battle between an Enterprise security team, who always get killed soon after appearing, and a squad of Imperial Stormtroopers, who can't hit the broad side of a planet?

Haven't you guys played Jedi Knight 2? It's not the troopers fault...that e-11 blaster rifle can't hit jack squat. I'm serious. Try playing on god mode, crouch, line up a shot at about 4 feet from a stormtroope on his head, and pull the trigger a few times. The gun shoots everywhere but the head.

Of course it's all rather convienient to have a huge clone army in as many of your films as possible all wearing the same exact armor, being the same exact height, etc..

at least it is you want to cut and paste your entire army into a film :)

On a mostly unrelated subject: Anybody keep up with the storyline in the books? I was a few behind in the New Jedi Order, and I'm just finishing up Rebel Stand...that Lord Nyax character was cool as hell, but don't you think he was a bit much for such a small part in the plot?

For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, this guy was bred by the former Empire, very strong in the dark side, and had lightsabers built into his body at every joint, that could be turned on at will and contained failsafes so could never sta...errr, hit (I didn't know this was actually a banned word!?) himself. Whoa. (3 meters tall too...)

Okay, so back to studying. :)

It's intresting to see everyone's perspective. I've never read any of the books expanding the story. Those books are not written by Lucas and are thus not part of the true SW universe IMHO because the writers can just make up whatever they want to fit their expanded stories.
Maybe some of the Stormtroopers are recruits, but not all of them.

I like to think they are all clones. They are the Army of the Republic that the Emperor turns into the Empire's army. (I love how he's playing both sides!)
If they aren't clones, then why have them all in the suits and helmets that blasters can shoot through anyway?? Why have that kind of uniform and helmet if not to conseal the fact that they are all the same guy underneath? That makes the most sense to me.
When I was watching EP2 for the first time, I remember thinking "wow, the stormtroopers are all clones. That's it. That's how they came to be."

Well, that's what I think anyway. I don't know what happens in EP3 (completely) so we'll see how the fate of the Clone Troopers unfolds then.

I thought the Star Wars books were considered "offical" SW "history." IIRC many fans were pissed how I and II were "rewriting" history since GL had "sanctioned" the books.

IIRC:

1. stormtroopers are not clone troopers. i believe han solo wanted to be a storm trooper, but didn't make the cut. however, they are all similar height to inspire fear. (a midget stormtrooper would just be hilarious and no one would take them seriously)

2. the e-11 is wildy inaccurate (according to JK2, anyway). the empire is probably spending their money building things like death stars instead of buying accurate rifles.
