Are all Platinum rings created equal?

Unlike Gold where i know there is 14k, 18k, etc...

Is there differences in the quality/weight of platinum or is it all basically the same?

Look for .950Pt... Generally the best acceptable mix you can get is .950 or 95% Platinum, 5% Iridium, they don't get much higher (if at all, platinum itself is very weak) but the levels do get lower

Difference between designer and non designer brand, e.g. Tiffiny, Cartier, etc. vs going to Hongkong and pick up some generic non name brand 950PT stuff.

Just because it's marked 950Pt doesn't mean it is

At least get it from a reputable dealer...platinum will look dull in color even if you polish it, very heavy, easily distinguishable from silver and white gold. Platinum is about $35/g but expect to pay 2.5x+ that for jewlery

Btw, platinum is massively up in price over the last 2 years, keep in mind as interest rates rise, so does savings and hence bonds and precious metals...the govt says there are still inflation fears so they will continue to rise, it's only getting pricier from here! Sellers market baby! <shameless plug> btw, I'm looking to unload my platinum chain if anyone is interested </end shameless plug>

Most shops locally have a 5mm Platinum band comfort fit for between $1500-$2000, BlueNile is around $800, SamsClub (the reason i asked) is $448
