Are all memory card readers from eBay actually USB 2.0?

I live by the principles of you get what you pay for (not always, but for non-expensive items, almost always)

Anyways, I have had a digital camera for 4 years now, and never actually bothered to buy a memory card because i didnt want to buy random $0.99 one from eBay, and never had time to research as to which one to buy because most good ones started from $20, and lets just say that i was lazy to buy card reader because there was always USB which i could use.

Anyways, the time has come for me to finally buy it.

I take it, there are 4 major brands now:

CompactFlash
MemoryStick
Secure Digital
xD

all the rest (like MMC/and other dead formats) are not important.

So if I was to look for one that offers all 4 major ones, would eBay be a good place to look for one.

All memory card readers are advertised as USB 2.0 speed.
But then question arises: Whats the difference between a $2.99 memory card rwad and $22.99 memory card reader. I mean both are USB 2.0 so is it worth paying $20 more (i am on a tight budget, so cost is important) for card reader?

Please help because I am confused.
Since memory card readers dont usually have a brand name, most are non-brand..its hard to distinguish between good and bad.

for example, if i was to choose between ...say...i dont know..um...DVD drive, i woul choose good brand vs non brand.
but memory card is different, i dont know which one to take, they are all non-brand!

My guess is brand and quality of product. By "non-brand" do you mean they are actually not branded?

What kind of memory do you need the reader for?
The brands you listed are actually memory types.

i just dont know which one to get because all of them are no-brand or no-name

Just like AMD/Intel are CPU makers, is there a good brand i should look for in memory card readers?

might try some camera review sites. i haven't checked up on it recently but they used to show different transfer speeds from different card readers. 2.0 by itself doesn't garrantee fastest.

ebay is the ideal place to shop for memory cards since it is not heavy and you don't have to pay high shipping rates.
