Are all "fads" stupid?

I've noticed that through out my life I've seen fads come and go and I am now wondering, were any of these fads any good? I mean any good like where they: Useful, dependable, worthwhile, built well, "high quality", fun? Has there ever been a product that gained a lot of popularity and it wasn't all just steam?

Nintendo might've been considered a fad, and imo it was pretty damn good

fads can help boost research (no one knew what to do with PE and PP plastics, until the hula-hoop fad happened and allowed the company to make some money off the stuff), but they are still stupid.

Fads are nothing than a cool fashion/theme/thing of a particular time. It doesn't do anything except separate the uncool people from cool people. Fads are things that people do/make/use/wear when they have nothing to do in their lives.
