We're replacing our Pix515E's w/ ASA5550's.
Since the 515's won't be in use, I'm wondering if we can use the unlimited activation keys on the 515's to 501's or 506's.

Never really thought about it until now.

It may be possible. Call TAC or work with your Cisco account team - they may be able to generate a new license for you if you tell them the 515 won't be in use. Especially if you're buying new gear they'll work with you.

Thanks; although we've already bought and received the 5550's so they may or may not want to let us do that.
Should've thought about this before paying for the invoices.

You realize you could have gotten trade-in credit for the 515s, right? It's not much, but it's better than nothing for gear you are replacing.

Eitherway, I'm sure they'll work with you. I've done similar stuff before.

501 and 506's are deployed to places where makes sense...you don't wanna send a 515 to a teleworker's home because of the size and noise. Those are the reasons I can come up w/ right now...can't think of other reasons w/o coffee.
