Are Acer CD-ROMs any good?

I just picked up an Acer 52x CD-ROM (CD 652G). I was planning on going with a Sony or a Panasonic, but they were out of stock. Does anyone have any thoughts on Acer's?

Thanks in advance.

i've had my acer 50x for over 2 years now. works great. i've seen threads like this in the past, and the consensus is definitely that there's nothing wrong with acer

My experience with a 50x Acer was not good. Took forever to spin up, was very loud and had trouble reading a lot of discs. I like Teac or Asus drives better.

I thought Acer and Aopen were the same company?

I have an Aopen 48X drive and it has been very good.

i have the acer 50x.... not the best... but not the worst... slower spin up times ... but hey! it works!.. hope u like your new drive!

They're pretty junk.. same with Aopen.. same crap..

I have had the experience of dealing with 3... so far only 1 still works...

One of the other ones ate my Shogo CD so of coursed it left my BIASed against them and will never touch one again!
The other one simply would not work out of the box.. there was NOTHING. so I replaced it with an LG (which is a wonderful drive).

from MY experiences they are pure awful.

Acer makes good inexpensive cdrom drives. I own a 52x model and my sister has a 56x model. Both are reliable, but the spin up times are a little slow. I guess there has to be some sort of trade off for the super low $30 price.

I have a 50x generic drive! I have no idea who makes it! No where on the drive does it tell me or in any software! It works great though!
