Are 2-week disposable contacts really bad for you're eyes?

My parents both say they are, but my oldest sisters boyfriend (med school, Cal Berkely, dad is also a doctor) say that 2-week disposables aren't bad for you're eyes. I'm talking in general terms, not just sleeping in them at night or something like that.

they do prevent air from flowing into your eyes or something, but then they still wouldn't be a problem unless you had them in forever or slept in them. I've had contacts for 5 years, and I'm not blind yet :)

It only becomes a problem if you leave them in for a few months at a time. Seriously. I used to use daily wear contacts and leave them in for about three months to four months at a time; never took them out. That IS BAD! Don't do it.
But for a week or two, even sleeping in them and you are fine. You just need to give your eyes a rest from contacts for a day or two between uses.

Two week disposables are made to wear 12 hours a day for two weeks or 24 hours a day for one week. They arent bad for you eyes unless you are cheap and make them last 2-3 months.

My g/f wears her "disposable" contacts 24/7 for long periods of time. I tell her not to and that it can be harmful, but she doesn't listen, nor does she seem to care. Dumb ass.

I take mine out nightly.

my eye doc said that you weren't supposed to sleep in contacts, etc because it can get no air and will stick to your eye and they'd have to cut it off.

don't all contacts block oxygen to a degree? i thought that soft ones were at least semi-permeable.

the contacts start to lose shape after awhile. thats the main thing. if you clean them properly i don't see why they couldn't last as long as the old non-disposable kind.

i see. I currently usually wear my contacts from about 6 in the morning till about 6-7 at night (when i come home from school), then immediately put on glasses. If there doesn't seem to be any horrible damage from under 24 hour wear then I guess i'm fine. Thanks :)

I wore them for 3-4 years, sometimes for weeks at a time without taking them out. DO NOT DO THIS

I wear glasses now
