If a person has 1 IDE channel to use, is it faster to use let's say 1 - WD2000JB by itself as master or 2 WD800JB's as master/slave

Actually you would want each HD on a seperate channel if there are only 2 HDs. Put your HD w/ the OS on it on the first channel, and the other HD on the other.

THanks, but that's not an option for me. I've got a CDRW as master on IDE 1, DVD-RW as master on IDE 2. That leaves my Promise on board controller to handle 2-3 drives. I've got a WD1200JB for storing ghost images & other storage items. I was planning on putting that on IDE 4 as a master by itself. That leave IDE 3. I'm just not sure if I should put 1 WD2000JB by itself or my 2 WD800JB's as master/slave. Either way, it/they would hold the OS, apps & all working files.
