Arctic silver / suitable solvent??

on the arctic silver website it says 'Clean the mating surfaces completely with a low residual solvent (isopropyl alcohol will work) '.

i don't appear to have any isopropyl alochol, can anyone recommend a suitable solvent available around the household or commonly available?

There's a certain type of nail polish remover that can do it...but I can't remember the name...hmmm gah well someone will say it!

right, i have found -

surgical spirit - 'contains methanol and ethanol'

nail polish remover - 'contains soluble lanolin'

spectacle lens cleaner

any of those good u reckon 🙂 ?

LOL, nothing like grain alcahol huh. 😉

I have used a bit of dish soap and a damp rag.

I've found that spraying WD40 on a Q-Tip works very well for removing AS from the ceramic. This is the hardest part to get it out of because it's porous. Then follow with a degreaser such as acetone.

Cheers!

I have to agree with Amish. The very best thing is brake cleaner. You can buy it at any auto parts store for $2. It works great and evaporates quickly so you aren't submersing the CPU in liquid.

yeah i was thinking of that, it's pink and greasy and unpleasant, so if i can successfully remove the thermoengine without a crushed core, i'll use the lens cleaner 🙂

HELLO? Isopropyl alcohol is rubbing alcohol & you can buy for $1 at any drug store or supermarket!!!!!
