I'm planning to get a Scythe Mine, I want to know whether or not I should get Arctic Silver with it or used the supplied stuff. I plan to overclock past 2.6GHZ on an X2 3800+. Does this stuff ever go bad? If it doesn't I might just buy 12gram container instead of a 3.5gram container and spread it on my current video card and video cards to come. What do you think? Thanks.

AS5 does go bad, but if u store it tip down it only goes bad at one end. AS5 also needs to be reapllied to the processor every 3 years usually. I would go with Arctic Cooling MX-1 instead. Cools slightly better, 8 years before needing reapplied, and i dont think it goes bad (correct me if im wrong)

Alright thanks, would the 3.5gram tube be suffecient for 3 video cards and 2 processors? I really doubt it, because I might need a larger tube.

Why use arctic silver at all?
If you use the thermal paste that ships with the Scythe Minbe you will be just fine!!!
AS5 is way over rated@!!!

I'm running a Scythe Mine with MX-1 -- works fine for (ahem) a Scythe Mine...

Here's a screeny for you!

Not bad for a 3GHz P4 in Arizona -- still hot here!

A 3.5 gram tube would be sufficient for far more applications than that. If you run out, you are using way too much.

I've been using a 3.5 gm tube for over 20 or so applications. (mostly CPU, a few NB and SB heatsinks)

So the 12 gram container is used for professional usasge? That's a lot of paste.

Yes, you would need to build systems regularly to need this.

With ease. 3.5 gram tube can give you anywhere from 20-50 applications, depending on what you're doing. You could get 50 Pentium 3's done with it ;) .
