Arctic Silver Heatsink Compound? Yes/NO

I just ordered a mobo with CPU and heatsink/fan installed. I am clueless regarding the best way to insure good contact for a replacement heatsink.
Should "Arctic Silver Heatsink Compound" or some other compound be used, or a thermal tape, or nothing but metal to metal contact.

You should always use "Heat Sync Compound" with your CPU.
Intel & AMD both use HSC on retail CPU's.

Artic Silver is considered by many to be the very best.
