Hi, i'm building my first system within the next few weeks, it will be an athlon 1.33 i believe and I would like to overclock it. I've been told that the Taisol heatsink is good so i think i may go with that, but i'm wondering if Arctic Silver Compound is necessary to keep the temperature down. If it is a necessity, how difficult is it to apply this stuff? Thanks.
 
AC is extremely effective, I wouldn't use anything less. It comes in a kinda tube much like a syringe, I often squirt too much out, getting it back in is difficuly (at the price it is, you dont want to waste it).
I recommend it...but if cost is a problem than just go with normal paste. DO NOT USE THE THERMAL PADS! They are suck 😀
 
espensive, its like 9 bucks at mwave.com. Maybe i'm looking at the wrong thing or something but it looks like a syringe and says it can cover alot of cpus with one tube. But, if it is really important, how difficult is it to use? Do you just squirt the junk under a heatsink then attach the heatsink and fan like normal?
 
You put a very small about and, what I do, is spread it with a razor blade. AS2 is not effective unless it's applied as a very thin flat layer.. on clean surfaces..
 
It's not really that difficult, just follow the directions on the Arctic Silver web site and you'll be fine. Start out with just a little and go from there. You don't want to apply too much.

And yes, it is effective, especially if you ever want to overclock. Depending on who you talk to, it will decrease temps from 2-5 deg C over normal silicon paste.

Poncherelli, It was expensive when I bought my 6gram tube a few months ago (that's how long it lasts!)

Jex: I put AC on my freinds computer after removing his thermal pad, dropped his temps by about 15Deg! I was amazed....

one time thing. but if you take your heatsink off you should clean both surfaces (cpu and heatsink) and reapply more as.
