I am considering buying a bfg 7800gtx from a guy who took off the stock heatsink and used silver adhesive for the ramsinks. Anyone have any experience removing them? I want to put the stock sink back on. How easy/hard is it. I have no experience dealing with AS adhesive with video cards.

Googone work?

Let me know thanks.

If he used 100% of the adhesive, and didn't mix it with AS, it's impossible to remove it. You'll get substrate failure - as in you'll rip out the memory chips, before the epoxy fails.

I recently put Artic Silver epoxy on my 6800GT's ramsinks because they kept falling off, and I can tell you that that stuff is strong. You might be able to loosen it with 99% alc or Artic Silver's 2 part cleaning solutions, but don't count on it.

That stuff has some serious grip. :)

also, epoxy can become brittle and below freezing temperatures. I've found the combination of freezing then using a bit of isopropyl alcohol can get them off but you have to be EXTREMELY careful in this tertory as putting a room temperature liquid on to a very cold part can get it to pop, as in explode. also the freezing technique not only makes the epoxy more brittle but the ramchips themselves more brittle. I wouldn't recomend googone and it terrifies me a little bit when people it on anything plastic based as I had it eat through a thin sheet of plexi one night. It's not as bad as the rocket fuel you can buy to clean things with but it still leaves me a bit apprehensive.
