Arctic Silver 5

When you apply Arctic Silver 5,do you put a small amount(about the size of a grain of rice),on the middle of the CPU cap,after the CPU has been installed.
Then when the Heatsink is installed over it, the Arctic Silver 5 Thermal compound spreads between the Cpu cap and the Heatsink.
Is my assumption correct?

I just use a very small piece of thin cardboard and spread it razor thin, being very careful around the edges not to slop it over....haven't blown one up yet😉

If you're using a small core CPU like an Athlon XP, you do need to spread a tiny amount of AS5 over the core in a very thin but full layer. If you're using a CPU with a heat spreader like an Athlon 64 or Pentium 4, then your assumption above is correct.
