Arctic Silver 5 application

What's the best way to put Arctic Silver on the heatspreader for the first time (quad-core)? Their website says put a line across the center, others say a rice grain sized blob, others just put some on and spread it with an old credit card or plastic bag around your finger.

Highly recommend following the instructions (line down the center).

Also don't forget AS5 has a curing time, so don't be surprised if your temps are a tad higher than expected initially.

Give it a week or two and come back and check where your temps finally settled in at. This also means if you are overclocking then don't be surprised if the overclock you find to be barely stable today (right after AS5 installation) turns out to be quite stable after a couple weeks.

And according to Arctic Silver, heating up and cooling down is part of the curing process, so leaving your computer on 24/7 may prolong the curing period.

Honestly though, for most users I doubt all of that matters much.

Also, isn't the direction different for a quad? I think I read that somewhere.

Actually the line-down-the-center method for AS5 is solely for quads. For dualcores the AS5 installation instructions specify using the dallop method.

But yes, when doing the line method the orientation of the line matters. The pictures in the instructions show the correct orientation.
