Which would be better for dual 7800 GTs?

Strictly performance here, side off case (air blowing out back isnt important). Noise is no factor.

I'm trying to decide....

Make sure you have room for those dual slot coolers!

Two NV5 silencers would not fit in my DFI LP Ultra-D. I dont even think a VF700 + NV5 Silencer would fit without cutting down the screws that stick out the back.

If you have an Asus A8N32-SLI or a DFI Expert or some other mobo with lots of room between coolers then it's not an issue, but beware!

That being said, I really like my NV5 Silencer. GPU2 (one with Silencer) runs 33*C idle and ~45*C load depending on game. Pretty effin good if you ask me.

Yup by far the safest bet is either 1X Silencer (the bottom card) and 1X VF-700 Cu (the top card) or two VF-700 Cu's since the VF-700 only hangs over the first slot by a bit (but works in all SLI configurations), while the Silencer uses two full slots.

I owned both for my 7800GT and found performance to be very similar - both perform great :) .

Jiffy-

So the VF700 for sure works in the top slot with a normal SLI mobo?

I've almost bought it so many times, but I've heard it takes a slight mod to the screws that come out of the back to make it fit.

I think a Artic Silencer for the top card and a Zalman VF for the bottom would be the best solution. The top card doesn't have much room to breath if you put a Zalman there, however, with the Silencer, the hot air is blow out of the case. The bottom card has much more room, so a putting a Zalman there would be better. (From my experience, the VF cools much better than the Silencer).

The Silencer is supposed to go on the bottom because it wont fit between the 2 cards..

Silencer definately wouldnt fit ont he top card, trust me. I jsut ahve the standard CO HSF for the top card with an 80mm fan blowing the air towards the back of the case. 41*C idle, 58*C load :(

is there any point in doing a silencer on the bottom? Or should I just do both Zalmans?

it really doesn't matter since they perform similarly
zalman might be able to outperform the silencer by a few degrees

but that's it

i personally liked the silencer because it exhausts the air out of the case unlike the zalman which dumps the air inside the case
