I've been looking at these and thinking of getting one for my 6800...

Okay few questions?

Does this replace the stock GPU fan? or does it work along with it?
Can anyone provide a pic of it installed on a V.card?

Please forgive a newb.

I ended up getting one of these last year when my stock fan starting making funky noises. Besides making 1/3 the noise of the stock fan, the "at rest" temperature is about 1/2 of what it was with the stock fan. Even after a torture test, the temperature was still a few degrees less than what the stock fan kept it at while "at rest" !!

Only downside is that it does take up another slot. Didn't matter to me, as I always try to keep the slot next to the graphics card empty for cooling reasons.

Jase03: This replaces your stock fan/heat sink.

$26 shipped using Fedex Super Saver shipping for the AC NV Silencer 5 Rev 3. I take it this is the cheapest AC Silencer that fits the 7800GT? Not a bad price though... may have to pick it up. At least they have more shipping options than when I looked at this a couple of months ago. Super Saver, Priority Mail, and 1st Class Mail are all under $7 for shipping. All are cheaper than UPS Ground and IME faster most of the time.

Well i ordered this last week from svc and the dam thing was defective.......it killed my 6800ultra. The copper plate itself was uneven and didnt make contact with everything quite right, so now my card is dead.....Also the thermal paste provided on the copper itself was very stiff and old, like it had been sitting in a box for a long time. I didnt have anyother paste so i just used it, not sure completely how my card died but ive tried everything and confirmed its death by plugging in another vc and that one showing up video. Anyways from my experiences stay away from teh rev.2 get the rev.3 instead or a zalman.

You guys shouldnt even question this thing. Silencers are the sweetest method of cooling you can get....and damn near silent.

The one that I bought was completely silent! The fan never worked from day one. :disgust: Arctic Cooling does NOT honor the warranty that they claim to offer either. :|

Anyway, it is a simple fix

It sure was..... I simply pitched it in the trash can.

I had a Arctic Cooling NV Silencer Rev. 3 and the X1 for the 7800GT. Both were very quiet. I just ordered a NV Silencer 4 from SVC for my FX5950 Ultra. The second major thing (first being silent) I like about the Arctic Cooling VGA cooler is that the fan plugs into the video card unlike Zalman.
