How often is the video card GPU fan the loudest in a system?

Say I bought an Antec case with 1x120mm front and 1x120mm exhaust Panaflos, a low-speed 80 to 92mm Silverstone for the CPU fan, and the PSU fan being a 120mm "noise killer" Fortron. With these relatively quiet fans, would this make the stock evga 7800GT the loudest, and therefore I would need a NV Silencer if I bought the rest of those quiet fans?

edit: Well that and its not too hot when the cheapest shipping option showing up to my zip code is 2 day air $30.26!! WTF?

You guys shouldnt even question this thing. Silencers are the sweetest method of cooling you can get....and damn near silent.

And it gets all the hot air from the GPU and puts it where it belongs. Outside the case! I've got one and it's great.

As an added bonus if the cooler is on top or near the mobo chipset it will cool that also. After installing it on a 6800 by mobo temps dropped 4c.

The one that I bought was completely silent! The fan never worked from day one. :disgust: Arctic Cooling does NOT honor the warranty that they claim to offer either. :|

I know this is an old thread but thought some might find this post useful:

Got this silencer yesterday from SVC.com. It's still $14.99 (rev3 is $19.99). Bought it for my PNY 6800 GS AGP. Fit like a charm, installed in about 30min.

Haven't done serious testing yet but running the max core finder using ATITOOL had my GPU temp stablizing at 68C after several heat-ups.

Also case & CPU temps dropped 2-3C at idle. Very impressed, especially since the fan is virtually silent at 100% fan speed (set using rivatuner).

Also had an Arctic Cooling silencer (also from svc.com btw) on my good old 9800pro before I upgraded to the 6800. Both silencers are well worth the money.

My X850XT PE fan is louder than an Antec chenming case with stock antec case fans & PS and Volcano 6CU. It is *seriously* loud. I own a quieter vacuum cleaner.

That being said, svc also has the rev 2 and rev 4 AS for ATI cards for $10. Not too bad.

Thanks OP; I've got a PNY 6800 that's making an awful lot of racket in my kids machine. I will be glad to get rid of the stock HSF.

Great stuff and works! Mine drops 8-10c either way, idle or load on an AC NV rev 3.0 (7800GT). If you want to overclock and have your card to live a tad longer before upgrading, go out and get this one.

Every time I think about buying one of these I remember that the stock GPU fan (BFG 6800GT) is actually relatively quiet when not under load (from games). When it is under load I am either wearing headphones or using loud speakers.

There was a problem with an early model of Rev3 where the red and black wires are swapped....it is well document and AC knows about it. I don't understand why they didn't honor your warranty.

Anyway, it is a simple fix

These should fit the 7900GT's. You will need to hack about 1/2 an inch off ot the end of the duct. I used a dremel and about 10 minutes of uninterrupted time.

I have the rev3's currently installed but these should be no different

The uprev from 2 to 3 was for the connector compatability on the 7800GTX series as they have a 4 pin connector.

The 7900GT's have the same old 2 pin connector that the 6800 series uses

Excellent value and cooling system
