Arctic Cooling Freezer

Im looking at getting some serious cooling for my CPU but also dont want to spend unnecessarily, as im not gonna be pushing the absolute limits on the CPU overclocking wise, i might just bump it up a lil but gonna keep it fairly standard, i want to know, how does the Arctic Cooler compare to the rest out there? Including the Ultra120 Extreme and the rest, we must take into account the space i have in my case ( Aerocool Masstige A ) and secondly price vs. necessity, i dont need to overclock hectic, so will a stock cooler do the trick? and im still in between regarding cpu, check my thread out in CPUs if you want to add your 2 cents 🙂 *kidding*
Thanks

First of all you can't have the Freezer 7 Pro because it's only LGA 775 so you'd have to go with the Freezer 64 Pro. It's different in ways I don't know and, just from my experience, I haven't heard as good comments as I have with the Freezer 7 Pro. If I were you I'd go for a Thermalright Ultima 90 with a Noctua or Scythe fan. It virtually has the cooling capability of the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme but it's cheaper, smaller, and fits an AM2 socket I'm pretty sure.

EDIT: Wait, are you planning on getting an Intel system because you said in your CPU post that you only want Intel or something. Are you building a new computer and want the CPU cooler for that? Well, I posted my response based on the system in your sig.

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is a decent cooler. Not as good as a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, Tuniq Tower, etc

Right now the best performing HSFs are the Xigmatek 1283 and OCZ Vendetta 2 Heatpipe Direct Touch (HDT) models. They usually cost around $40 and perform on a par with, or better than the Tuniq & TRUE. Sunbeamtech is also coming out with a very good HDT model in the near future, no idea on price tho.

The AC Freezer 64 Pro is a great cooler for the cost. I got mine because it was cheap, but works well and my CPU was overheating. It worked so well, that I decided to overclock it by 500MHz, and it was still cooler than I had with the Zalman 9000 that it replaced. It does pretty well against the coolers that are at least twice its cost :Anadtech review on the AC Freezer.

The only difference between the AC Freezer 7 and the AC Freezer 64 is the mounting bracket. The prices on Newegg have gone up by 25% since that article was written, so it isn't as good of a deal as it used to be. There are some similarly performing coolers that you can get for around $20, which is what I got my Freezer for. I'll come back and post some of them if I come across what they are.

Get a Xigmatek S1283. I got it for $10 more than I originally got my F7Pro, and it is about 6 degrees lower on idle and 8 degrees lower on load. VERY good deal. Get a bolt thru kit for it, though.

Funny thing is that when Anand did the review the ACF7 got a stable 3850, the highest stable OC was only 110 mhz faster!!!

Now I am undergoing an upgrade with the G0 Q6600 and will be using this cooler, however I have a TJ06 with Wind Tunnel and are therefore looking for an extra 5c LOWER than those on review due to the tunnel isolation of the memory and CPU area......

I think the ACF7pro is a great cooler as it is only half the weight of the exotic coolers at the top of the review list......and doesnt need elaborate clamp mechanisms to attach.

The Xigmatek 1283 only weighs 600g with fan, or about 80g more than the ACF7 Pro. You gain HDT and a 120mm fan for $5 & 80g. It also is perfectly fine being mounted with the standard Intel push pins that it comes with. IMO a bolt-thru kit is an improvement for the 1283, but I also think a bolt thru kit would be an improvement for the ACF7 or most any other HSF.

Whats HDT?....

I'm going with the ACF7 as it will fit inside the tunnel.....is it the TRUE which is almost 1Kg?

HDT is Xigmatek's fancy name for bare heat pipes that touch the CPU heat spreader directly, instead of being embedded in a copper block. Stands for Heatpipe Direct Touch.

The freezer pro 64 is about the same size as my Cooler Master Hyper TX2, but may be a bit better - the TX2 keeps my system cool but it's not a screamer system. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either. One advantage of the Hyper is that it will work with both AMD and Intel CPUs.

.bh.

The Freezer 64 Pro is a decent actively cooled heatsink. I'd say if you can get a good price on a better heatsink, go for it (like say...24.99 for a Scythe Ninja after rebates). If you want a Freezer 64 Pro, just PM me and I can send you mine for half of retail 😛

I'm pretty sure that Anand is the only one who has gotten temps like that w/an ACF7Pro. My temps were higher than his, and there was NO way I could've gotten to 3.8 GHz on that thing. My temps would have been near 80 on load, and this is in a better case than the one Anand uses (NZXT Hush). I personally have a hard time believing his HSF reviews because I have a hard time believing that Rosewill case has adequate airflow for those OCs.

I think it was a dual core he tested on, the point was the difference between the top coolers was not great, not how much he clocked the cpu.

I'm building another computer and I think I'm going to use the ACF7 with my Intel chip. I would rather have better cooling and have thought about going to water, but that is a whole new set of problems.

The problem with most coolers(unless you have a huge case) is mounting and unmounting. Once mounted it can be quite difficult just to plug in the 8 pin power connector. I have a p180 case. Then if you have to swap out memory or put in new memory(which I usually do several times when building a new system) its a pain(literally) and I end up with cut knuckles.

Why don't someone figure out a mounting system that would make it easy to mount and dismount a large cooler inside a case. If anyone knows of one I would like to know what it is.

But, like I said, most of Anand's readings are not very close to what I've seen in the real world.

I have the Freezer 64 Pro in my AMD case as does a m8 on his AMD. Another m8 has it on his OC'ed C2D. We are all pretty happy with it. Mine is cooling an Opteron 180 on an NF4 SLI mobo.
