Just wondering if anyone is using this cooler on an overclocked Q6600 g0?

would it sufficiently cool the q6600 overclocked to around the 3-3.4ghz mark in a p182 case, or would i have to spend the extra cash and get something like the tuniq tower?

thanks

Hmz 3.2-3.4 might be a little far fetched, for 3ghz I'd say no problem, more then that, which I haven't tried, I couldn't say for sure. Probably better of spending 45$ on a tuniq tower instead.

Q6600 G0s are 4-core nuclear flamethrowers! Get a Tuniq Tower 120...

Pedro Rocho pushed one to 4.220GHz (benchmark stable) using a Tower 120, and he didn't even clean the dirt out of the fins! :D

yo you really need to get off the tuniq towers testicles. its really annoying when you're in almost every thread reporting the same information.

and you're wrong about the q6600's they do not run as hot as you think. at stock speeds mine loads a 38C

What's your Q6600's idle and load temps (Orthos or Prime95, Small FFts) using Core Temp to monitor temps at this oc?

Lets get back on the subject. Several people are looking for more response on this topic, myself included.

You're right I got off topic. If you can afford it, and I'm sure it will fit in your p182 case, go for the the Tuniq, if you already have the Freezer Pro try it.

I'm building a system with a Q6600 GO stepping, Abit IP35-E MB, an el cheapo. $0.99 AR, Cooler Master Hyper TX2 HSF, and an Antec 900 case. I wasn't hoping for much of an oc but got my Q6600 GO stable up to 3.6 Ghz, 1.3575V bios, 1.312V CPUZ(idle), at 34 C idle, 58 C load Prime95 (all 4 cores) Small FFts. Temps measured with Core Temp, room temp 68 F.
Your CPU HSF is only part of the CPU cooling equation. You also need a case with excellent airflow and low ambient temps. I think the Antec 900 case fans (set at mid range), especially the monster fan directly on top of the CPU HS, and the low ambient temp, contributed the most to the low CPU temps. I was expecting load temps in the 70's with that oc. So, it is possible to cool the nuclear reactor of a Q6600 with just a cheap HSF.

I also replaced those POS plastic push pins on the HS with a Thermalright Bolt-Thru kit. Not sure if this helped temps, but my HS is super secure.

Edit: I stopped at 3.6 Ghz. With a little more voltage my Q6600 may be capable of going higher, but of course my CPU temps will rise. For every bump in voltage I got about a 5 c rise in load temps. I could also try putting all the fans on my Antec 900 to the high setting, if I wore ear plugs.

My comment wasn't aimed at you Mad. Looked like you were actually trying to get it back on topic.

Either you live in a freezer or your temp is way off.

my load temps went up to 65-69C after 8 hours of priming overnight.

i live in brooklyn, NYC. window opened a bit. i'd say room temps range from 67-70F (throughout the day)

and before Ocing (2.4ghz) i'd idle at 26-28C. and load at 36-40C...

how much do you think i'm off by?

My Q6600 at stock voltage, 1.2375V bios, has an idle temp of 28 C, and a load temp of 42 C, ambient room temp 68 F. I have 1 core that runs about 4 C lower than the other 3 at idle and 2-3 C at load. This skews the average down. At lower ambient temps, a load temp at stock voltage of ~40 C is possible.

AFA measuring temps go, if you're not using Core Temp, then your temps are not accurate. End of story. The utilities that come w/the motherboard are way off b/c they read the Socket Temp and not the core temperature itself (embedded thermal die).

For example, the EasyTune utility that comes w/Gigabyte boards says my idle temp is 22C. CoreTemp says it's 33C. It's well-known that CoreTemp is THE temp measuring utility for C2D's and C2Q's. I think people that are claiming stress temps of 30-35C are looking at their motherboard utilities' reported temps and not CoreTemp temps.

Back on topic. :) I have a Freezer7 Pro and a Q6600. Currently running at 9*333=3.0GHz at stock voltage settings with the C1E and EIST turned on. At idle the C1E reduces the multiplier to 6 for a 2.0GHz stock speed.

I idle at 33C (CoreTemp) with a 23C room temp. With 4 instances of Prime95, Small FFTs running, I'm at 58C (Core Temp) across all 4 cores. I have the fan on the Freezer 7 controlled by PWM and by the EasyTune software. I have it set to run the fan at full speed at 40C, which turns out to be roughly 50C in the real world (i.e.Core Temp temps).

There's no doubt in my mind that the Freezer7 is more than sufficient for overclocking a Q6600. Just be sure to use AS5, seat the HSF properly and give the AS5 time to break in before making final judgements on temps. :)

And no need to buy AS5 for the Freezer Pro, because it comes with mx-1 pre-applied, which is in fact better thermal grease then AS5 !!!

I have both. I can tell you , what other Tuniq owners do not tell you, is that the Tuniq edges are sharp and in combination with it's gigantic size, will bring tears to your eyes.

I have bleeding knuckles, broken skins and needless hours working inside the case because of it's gigantic size making working extremely difficult.

The Arctic Pro 7s, despite its pedestrian push pins, are much more user friendly, not to mention, they are a lot easier on the pocket. IF installed properly, the Freezer 7 will be about 95% as good as the Tuniq and will not make any significant dent on your OC.

:Disgust;

Nice post, Husky55. A very blunt, tell-it-like-it-is post.

The Tuniq is actually quite a bit better than the F7 AT EXTREME overclocks/voltages. It's just plain bigger and can dissipate more heat. For Average Joes like me who only wants 3.2GHz out of his Q6600 at modest overvoltages, the F7 is just fine.

For 90% of the users out there the F7 is the ticket. It's much smaller, cheaper, easier to mount, etc.

The only thing about the F7 that worries me are the push pins; they're gonna wear out someday. At this point, I've removed/remounted that cooler 3 times already and will be going for a fourth next week. I hope the pins stay strong.
