The Best Buy's in Southern California seem to have it for $169.97. I saw them at this price at both the Pasadena, CA store and West Covina, CA store.

I'm suddenly becoming interested in picking up a 6+gig unit to take with me traveling. And even plug into my vehicle using a cassette adapter when I get tried listening to the radio. A major concern I have is battery life. Especially when traveling, I take some very long flights and don't want to be changing batteries every 3-4 hours. Is there a website that has information on all of these different mp3 players showing the pros & cons?

I was mostly attracted to the Classic MP3 because of the price and the battery life. Does the Classic use a proprietary battery? Ideally, I'd like a unit with the lowest power drain.. perhaps I could use some high capacity rechargables to make even a Nomad player useful, but I still want to avoid going through lots of batteries. Maybe two sets of rechargeables, with the option of using normal batteries if I have no other choice.

nippyjun: I'm shocked! I would have imagined it'd be the same prices at all Best Buy's in SoCal. Did you verify with an employee by scanning it? Sometimes they don't change the shelf tag. 🙁

And yes, the Classic does use a propriatary battery. It looks like the shape of a cell phone or cordless phone battery (box shape). The Archos uses standard AA Sized Ni-Cad batteries.

And yes, for those keeping track, I returned the Classic and picked up the Archos instead. The USB Hard Drive feature is very important to me, as well as not having to wait on a rebate. 🙂

I just went to the west la best buy on pico and the price was 169.97. I'm not sure if the westood one is at the lowered price.

anyone else bought the classic? I really like the fact that its 10gb's, 9hr battery life and not ugly as hell like some of the other portable hd mp3 players out there.. Im thinking about buying it in maybe 3 weeks.. Id get the archos if it didnt have those fugly blue bumpers.

confirm....BB in Sunnyvale also has this 6 giger for $169, I bought one a couple days ago.

After somebody mentioned $30 rebate at CC, I went there with BB receipt and got PM at the same price as BB........on top of that, $30 rebate to make the deal hotter.
