But will they always be high paying jobs? Why would a company want to pay one lead programmer $100k when they can get people overseas to do it for $20k a year?

It's not in a corporation's best interest to fork out money. If they can get the job done for less, they will.

well, you are right, you will not be running into easy money like during the dotcom days... you have to distinguish yourself just like in any other industry. the days of getting paid a ton of money just because you know C++ are over, so yea, don't do it if you are lazy.
