Architecture or Computer Science?

I'm torn between the two. Of course the results from this thread won't influence my decision, and there's an obvious bias posting this in AT.

But anyway, which carreer would you choose to follow and why?

Which do you prefer? I'd take CS, I'm in CS.

Don't let the current job market affect your decision. You won't be graduating for at least 4 years. Look how this market was 4 years ago. It call can change, quickly. Do what you want to do, not what has the most jobs.

Any specific fields in architecture? If you like to design or create things Architecture is the thing.

u know, i hear this guy at my school is getting a 4.0 in EE and minoring in architecture...after i heard that i was like...:Q

I wanna vote for Computer Architecture...Wheres that option? 😀

Ok, between the two...Architecture. Way cooler to design it then go onsite and supervise then be stuck in an office all day long keeping up on patchs, upgrades, new software and horrid maganement all the while fighting unappreciative users who only see what you do wrong, not what you do right.

Computer Architecture = CE.

Make sure you know what CS actually is... I get the impression that most people think CS is l33t hax0rs and learning to use windows and linux... CS is of course nothing of the type.
Computer science is as much about computers as astronomy is about telescopes

Real computer scientists don't program in assembler. They don't write in anything less portable than a number two pencil.

start taking some civil engineering course (not exactly a perfect mix of the two, but you will be able to focus on design and engineering)...then if you don't like civil, you could switch to either architecyure of CS w/o losing much time by having to take all new courses...

I really enjoy urban studies and city dynamics, although this is a very limited field.

Like I said, I enjoy urban studies. 🙂

Unfortunatelly, that's not possible. It woud take a lot of work to be able to transfer to a different course. Of course, civil engineering is not out of the question, but the mostly pure technical standpoint of CS, CE and EE does not interest me. Architecture at least has some technical, combined with creative and artistical elements.

The only two things that keep me from going with architecture is:
1) Employment is really scarce here ... I know that I should not determine my carreer based on employment, but it IS a factor when you can't simply find a job. OTOH, computer related studies workforce may suffer from a bubble in the next 5 years; there are too many people following this path.
2) I have terrible drawing skills, which are needed to pass the exam to enter the course. I would take some lessons, but I don't know if it's something I would be able to learn, or if talent is really needed here.

Anyway, I'm astounded that CS is trailing in the poll ... :Q
