Ahhhh, I've watched this video like 8 times over the past couple of days. I'm now trying to convince my wife of the merits of converting our bonus room into a mini arcade with 7-10 machines.

I'd rather do vintage pinball machines. They're a hassle to take care of, but the art and tactile feel are second to none. I wouldn't collect anything newer than the early 70s.

I don't think it will work for you as well as it did back then. Back then it was leading edge tech, a place to hang with friends, hook up with girls and ditch school....the whole package. I would not want one of those monstrosities in my home let alone 7.

Well I would. Less competition for me to get mine I guess!

Hell yeah! Then when you walked in, you were hit by the smell of sweat, pizza, and french fries from the snack counter. Never forget it :) There was always an Orange Julius right across from the arcade too.

I was a kid around the time when arcades were just starting to trickle out. I never remember them being too popular outside of Toronto. The last big one they built was Sega City Playdium in downtown Mississauga. There are still small arcades around in movie theatres, some resort hotels, and restaurants. Most of the games they have are really old. At least 10 years. Mostly racing or hunting sims. I guess they don't manufacture cabinet systems anymore. I'd love to build my own cabinet with modern hardware. XBL has a ton of arcade games available.

I used to love pinball when I was a kid, even though I was never that great about it. When a friend of mine moved to a new house, the old owners left this pinball machine they had. We spent hours on that thing until it finally broke down. I miss those machines. Video pinball just isn't the same, controller vibration or no.

I love Pinball machines, use to play the shit out of the Whirlpool one, err think that was the name. Had a spinning disc in the middle that would make your ball go ape shit. The South Park one was pretty fun too. If I could afford an arcade unit I almost for sure would get a Pinball.

they still GOTS arcades like this.
salisbury
hampton beach
100 other beach towns im sure.

This. If you're on the north shore (MA), check out Salem Willows. They have a few classics tucked away in the back. Salisbury / Hampton are both a good time, haven't been to either in 7-8 years now, not that I live far.

I played the shit out of the XMen and TMNT games, they never got released for consoles though did they? My grandpa used to take me to this huge arcade in the mall 2 or 3 times a month and spend a few hours playing games. He used to study and teach us about dinosaurs all day. I remember when Primal Rage hit arcades I had him play with me and he was pretty much like wtf? :awe:

My all time favorite was Gorf. It had a real joystick with triggers, not just a plain knob n stick and like 5 different games built into one.

Meh, you only like arcades because that's what you had when you were a child. I'd gladly take almost any game console newer than the NES over an arcade place.

This is why you will remain a virgin. It was more than just the gaming.

There used to be two different cheats on full-size arcade cabinet version of Tempest, one which gave 40-something free credits and another which allowed the player to start on any level up to level 81. My friends and I used to invest one quarter and do the cheats, then sell the free credits and unlocked levels to somebody else that wanted to play.

I knew a girl that had two different brand machine keys. They worked for almost every game in the arcade. I liked going to the arcade with her :^D

this one?

No that's a little more advanced than the one I was thinking of. The one I played didn't have the "real" rasslers like Hulkster or Jake the Snake or any of those other guys. It had made up names based on the likenesses of the WWF guys. It was really ghetto but I liked it. :)
