Well, the ball-kind is similar to classic arcades, like Pac-man, where your hand had to be positioned on top of the joystick but ALL modern & most old arcades use the slender "bat" style because you can slip it between fingers (Thumb on top, pointer finger wrapped around & other fingers behind). This style is necessary for many games, but not all (Pac-Man, for instance), so I've always been a die-hard for genuine arcade controls. My fave console joystick was the ASCII Fighter Stick SN for the Super Nintendo (SG6 for the Genesis), but it's major flaw was the ball-style joystick. Ah well, at least genuine Hap-controls buttons/joysticks are used in the hot-Rod & they are easy to buy for home-made projects.
