The chief of Yasser Arafat?s Fatah faction in Lebanon on Friday threatened to launch worldwide attacks against American and Israeli interests if the Palestinian leader is harmed by Israel.

Speaking in a heavily guarded office in the Rashidieh refugee camp, Brigadier Sultan Abul-Aynayn said there were no longer any red lines constraining the Palestinians and hinted that fighters could in a ?short time? launch attacks across the Lebanon-Israel border.

?If one hair on the head of Arafat is harmed, the US had better protect its interests around the world. I mean what I am saying. The US should protect itself if anything happens to Arafat,? he said. ?We are not like Osama bin Laden, but we have our own style of response.?

He added that the Palestinian diaspora could be mobilized to launch attacks against ?Zionist and US interests.?

?Our reach is long, and with this continuous struggle we have the right to respond.?

Abul-Aynayn urged Washington to intervene immediately in the Israeli assault on Arafat?s headquarters in Ramallah, warning that failure to do so would force the Palestinians to resort to the tactics of Black September.

i have said all along that this wouldn't help our fight against terrorism, that this whole thing would give more fuel to the terrorists. i guess this confirms what i was thinking.

i honestly think those arab bastards in the middle east and africa are some of the most evil people ever.

 
Israel could have killed Arafat a long time ago, but it's not that simple. Without Arafat, there would be no one left to negotiate with. Even a faint hope for peace would disappear. The country would be taken over by terrorist factions and the crisis would escalate.
 
If they think threatening us is going to make us act on their behalf they live in a different world than I do and maybe they should leave the world I live in permanently.

Why do we always get lumped in with Israel it?s not like they?re the 51st state, its another country? How can we tell the Israelis what to do? We give them financial and military assistance but we give the whole dam world money and guns it seems. We probably give more money to Muslim countries than anybody in the world and they still hate us. I say screw em all. The only thing they seem to understand is violence if that?s what they want we should give it to them. :|
 
The Arab countries hate the U.S. no matter what . We have a free society, freedom of religion , etc ( per the Constitution) amongst what else makes this palce the best place to live . The only reason the Arab countries have acted as friends because they make lots of $ oil and want to spend it putting their people in US colleges, buying stocks etc. These people aren't tolerant of others (us non-muslim infidels ) If they want a Jihad well lets give them their Jihad from a position of strength.

Let's see, what is that area up to, six suicide bombers in the last 96 hours or so? Absent a third country/party attacking Israel, how much further COULD the situation escalate?

Wrong. Violence is all that people like Yasser Arafat understand, backing off now would be what would give more fuel to the terrorists. Any sign of weakness. Arafat cannot be allowed to wriggle free this time, just to cause more trouble later on.

The arabs aren't the only ones fed up with Sharon's tactics but Europe is too (from the same site as your link). You can address the symptoms, like that fatah statement (if its true which it may not be), or the real aggressor/escalator, Sharon.
