<< I'm not disagreeing with you, what I am saying is that from the perspective of US interests, trying to strong arm the larger Arab community into dealing with the Palestinian situation could be quite costly to us in more ways than one, particularly if we
do not maintane an in charge ,overseerer role in the process.

If the governments in the region don't change, the problem will never be solved. It would be far more productive to send envoys to Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc. than to Israel and the Palestinian territories.

I guess that all I'm trying to say is that the problem is not solely between the Palestinians and the Israelis. In fact, it could be argued that it's not between them at all.

<< How exactly is it a worse idea for Arabs to take care of an Arab problem than the US stepping in? >>

Because the Israeli?s would never agree to an Arab brokered peace agreement, especially with Sharon as their leader. One thing that the Arabs would insist on is Israel closing down all the Jewish Settlements in the West Bank. Sharon, who has had a major role in their creation, would never agree.
