Okay, i finally figured out how to get the router to act in bridge mode.

(plug the ethernet cable from the primary router into a lan jack, rather than wan jack, turn off DHCP)

the problem is, after i configured it as such, and /release /renewed the IP addy on my laptop, i suddenly lost the ability to access the router for configuring security settings. it worked perfectly, and took the IP from the main router, but... umm... how the hell can i access the router?

i'm trying to reset the router now, and configure security settings before i turn it into a bridge, but if anyone has any idea how to get access to the router for configuring security settings, please tell me. all IP's the router has gone through have not worked.

Chances are you didn't change the IP address of the bridge router before releasing your laptop and your laptop grabbed an IP address on a different subnet from your main router. For instance, if your laptop grabbed a 192.168.1.X address from your main router, but your bridge router is configured to have a 192.168.0.X address on its LAN side, you will not be able to access it from your laptop.

What you need to do is temporarily manually set your laptop to have an IP address in the same subnet as the bridge router (192.168.0.X in this example). That will allow you to go into the configuration interface of the router to change the LAN IP to something in the main router's subnet (the 192.168.1.X in this example). Then set your laptop to again take DHCP and you should be set.
