AR15 Build

I had a few AR lowers that I got a while back and decided to throw a lower parts kit in one of them. I'd never put together one before, but with the guide from ar15.com, it took me about 20 minutes. The only thingsI had trouble with was the bolt catch pin, the trigger guard pin, and the pivot dentent (tricky, but I got it with a little work)

I threw a 5.56 nato upper on it and everything appears to fit properly. I may go out and test it this weekend or next if I get around to it. I'm wanting to build my second AR lower as either 9mm or 5.45x39....if I can find someone who makes a complete upper for cheap. RRA sells complete uppers, but they're overpriced if you ask me. I may end up having to hit up some gun shows this year.

How much did you pay for the kit? My brother has a couple of lowers for ~125 a pop, but i never seen the kits too cheap.

Just out of curiosity, how heavy is the 9mm upper kit? I always thought an mp5 knockoff (coharie, vector) would make good home defense gun, but the 9mm AR is probably a lot cheaper(?). The downside is that it's heavy as shit - brother has a 22 upper on of the lower cheapo lowers and it's way topheavy.

I got a complete rifle kit (everything but the lower) for $503 shipped. You can get them from del-ton.com, but there's a 6 month lead time. Some gun vendors will sell complete uppers for that. The only other parts you need is a lower parts kit=$65 and a stock=$50.

Of course, you can spend more by doing upgrades. On my second build, I'll probably buy a really nice stock. I just don't see a need to put a lot into a rifle I'm not going to be doing more than plinking with. ARs are good for target practice and novelty....they're awful fun to shoot. I just have trouble sinking over $700-800 into one...that includes Bushmaster & all other major manufacturers. I think my cousin dropped about $1050 on his. I'm going to do a side-by-side comparison. The only difference I know of is my barrel isn't chromed...but I'm not going to be taking it out in the mud.

looks like mine except i put the carry handle / rear sight on the a3 upper.

i started with a stripped lower and bought a rifle kit. not sure how much i paid. i think somewhere around $700 for the entire gun. i love shooting the thing, but it runs through ammo like mexican water on an unsuspecting tourist. and, as you know, that ammo ain't cheap.

btw, reviews on your sight? i'd like to put one on mine.

That's the sight I put on it. It's cheap, but has decent reviews and it's got an alright display. It's not very clear when looking at objects close up...like your hand, but when you aim at objects about 5-20 meters away, the red dot is much easier to see. It comes with a nice rubber boot that slips over the top, but it's far from being as rugged as an eotech. What you get for $350-500 sights is the assurance that you can drop your rifle and not worry about breaking the sight off.

If I end up not liking this on my AR, I have a Beretta U22 Neos that has a rail on top of it. It looks pretty cool mounted on top of a handgun.
