My apartment is pretty sparse on the furniture. No couch, no chairs, no table. I have a twin sized bed, my L shaped computer desk, two full back computer chairs (one new and one old), and a few bookshelves. Thats it.

A larger LCD TV along with some sitting devices are on my to buy list though, but it could be a ways off. Never have people over either.

A freaking couch is the one necessity for any apartment. Anyone should be able to find a decent one for free within a couple weeks of classified ads, signs at local places or get this...there's this new thing all the kids are doing called Craigslist.

That's sort of upseting.
A 4-door sedan isn't really a good way of transporting a couch though.

No couch.

One armless loveseat, one antique rocker, and a bunch of mismatched bargain basement chairs.

Gross! Free upholstered stuff on Craigslist.

Used upholstered furniture = People sit naked on it, do it on it, have kids, break water, bleed, puke, wizz & crap on, animals soil, spill food and drinks, floods, black mold, fungus, smoke on, and DIE on it.

Not to mention I have seen couches completely infested with insects, like roaches before. And they can get mites, lice and bedbug infestations, too.

I use recliners, office chairs and folding camping lounges if someone comes over. My recliner is great for sleeping on, I do it a lot. Using it right now on the PC.

same, makes a decent bed as well :) Although after about 2-3 weeks of sleeping on it I was ready for my other bed. Glad I decided not to go the whole super sparse route with that was my only bed

I moved out of my college apartment in June...no couch yet, but I'm in the market for one. I do have plenty of seating for social situations, but a couch would be ideal.

I'd think you were very odd if I saw an apartment w/o a couch...can't say I've ever seen that before though.

living in a third or fourth floor walk-up, couches are a real bitch to get into the apartment.

Yeah me too, I have a normal twin bed and the futon (which is essentially a double) in my living room with my 42" HDTV and sometimes I lie out on the single or the futon when watching TV but that gets uncomfortable after awhile. Once I retire to my queen sized bed, things go much smoother. I do love having lotsa sleeping space tho! :)

I don't have a catch yet, but I still have a futon. I'm thinking of getting rid of the futon, and buying a nice, comfy couch. However, I plan holding off on that untill my friend gets married b/c i might be able to get 2 recliners off of him and therefore i might not need a couch.

I got a 1 year old $800 loveseat of of craigslist for $200. I went looking at Ikea and stuff, but just couldn't find anything cheap that was comfortable. I've been very happy with my used loveseat.

I actually put the bed in the living room area with the tv, so I could relax and watch tv at night.

Sure people thought it was odd when they visited, they had to sit on the bed.
But it was just me, so I didn't need the extra furniture.

slick move... ;)

Guess this depends on where you live...there are used items here that probably cost more than people's entire furnishings. You can inspect the couch prior to it magically appearing in your living room.

Flute player play your flute cause
I know that you want to get your thing off
But you see Ive made up my mind about it
Its got to be the rhythm, no doubt about it, woah woah
cause when the guitar player start playing
With the syncopated rhythm, with the scratch, scratch, scratch
Makes me wanna move my body yeah, yeah, yeah
And when the drummer starts beating that thread
He nails that thread with the syncopated rhythm
With the rat, tat, tat, tat, tat, tat on the drums, hey

When I was in college and had an apartment with room mates (3 bedroom apartment, 2 room mates) ... we had no couch.

We had 3 recliners in the living room all pointed towards the TV.

I bought a full living room set while living in an apartment.

Just paid it off finally a few months ago and now that I live it a house, it actually fits in nicely (thankfully)

When I first moved out though in 2000 I was given a couch and the place I rented had a sleeper sofa couch that was left behind.

I own a couch but almost never use it other than to store CDs, cameras, photoalbums and other assorted nicks knacks.

Huh, didn't know UHaul was that cheap. But then, my only pricing reference for Uhaul was for a 350 mile one-way moving trip ($115).

And I don't know anyone with a pickup truck.

Well that's just dandy. I didn't know that, cool. $25 for anywhere from a pickup truck, through to the 10' truck. Plus $0.59 per mile. And I assume they'll want it returned with a full tank, though I'm not sure of that.

Great, now I might wind up with a couch sometime within the next year. Of course, I'd need a TV first, and I have no pressing need for that. My PC serves as my TV, though it's only got a 24" LCD, so sitting any distance away from it makes for a rather poor viewing experience, and the chair is quite comfortable anyway.

First thing I did when I got a new apt. was to shop for a new couch...

I have something like THIS but with a couple of differences.

Red (non-shiny) leather
Nice wide and flat armrests, as I'm using my 39" HDTV as a monitor, and I needed a place to put mu mouse :D

cost me about 2500 euro's (back when 1?=1$)

I was given a couch for my place. It's only on the second floor of a two family, but the hallway/staircase up was very unaccommodating for getting it in my place. I'm happy it was a freebie and was going to goodwill if I didn't take it, because it's not going to make the journey OUT of the apartment in one piece.

I owe a couple friends a second round of pizza and beer for their help on that one.

I have no intention of buying nice furniture for a place that I don't intend to live in for more than a year or two.
