the marine won't lose out simply because he's a marine.

carmen SHOULD go.

kim locke was uninspired. decent but uninspired.

clay and ruben - solid as always.

i missed trenyce. :(

Carmen's destined to lose today, regardless. Treyence or Josh is next, then the other one will go, followed by Kim

I didn't get to watch American Idol from the start this season, but I've been watching for the past few weeks. My thoughts:

Carmen has a decent voice, but really sucks. Her vibrato is way too fast for my liking and she tries way too hard.

Josh is okay, last night sucked donkey balls though.

Reuben is my favorite so far. He is always great. My only thought though, is that because he's so good, he doesn't seem to put as much effort into it as the other singers. But of course, they're usually putting too much effort in it. (Trying too hard.)

Trenyce is pretty good. I don't think she'll win though, because she still has some refining to do.

Kim hasn't always been good when I've seen her and I didn't see her last night. (Tuned in too late.) I'll have to see how she does in other performances. (And as for her face being too fat....Oh please.)

Clay.... lol Well, I really love Clay's voice but there is something about him. He kind of looks either like Fivel (SP???) from American Tale or Martin Short or something. I'm not diggin' on the squinty eyes thing. That just bothers me. I really can't see him being America's next pop star. *Shrug*

Anyway....those are my thoughts. I'm not a professional at all....just observations. :)

EDIT: Spelling.

OMG - my mom said he looks like Fivel too! LOL!! But he does have a weird look though - they at least did make an effort by his hairstylists to let his hair grow out long to cover his ears. That's a step in the right direction

the fivel remark cracks me up because on "movie night" he sang "somewhere out there"

i'm still pulling for clay.

as for a reason NOT to like kimberley locke - she can ONLY do slow songs. ONLY. the very first finals show, which was motown nite, she sang "heatwave." it was HORRIBLE. her voice could not keep up at all. she has progressed but has been playing to her strengths of bringing songs down to her register (she has done two celine songs and while she pulled them off, i did not think were impressive) (and that first show vanessa SHOULD NOT have been booted, but kim locke instead. her cheer when she was saved spoiled it for me also)

i get this feeling she won't win either because she's a larger woman and america is looking for a pop star (which is why carmen is still on here despite her complete suckiness...) ruben is just too smooth to eliminate right now and clay just sings too well. also josh is the marine, which has helped him out, plus he has a large following, and last nite's song had so much meaning because he used to sing it to his wife, getting him sympathy (too bad he didn't sing that well though)

(yeah clay hasn't done a fast song - he's only done slow and some mid tempo songs but he still has a great voice)

Seems the judges have a lot of double standards - especially when it comes to Ruben.

1. Simon tells Ruben to mix it up a bit since he sings all the same type of boring/slow songs. He changes it up a bit this week and is given kudos for it (as well as some of the other contestants). Josh mixes it up by not always singing country and gets flamed by Simon for it.

2. Paula criticized Clay a few times now for not moving around stage enough. Ruben has stood in the exact same spot every performance, never moving a thing but his arms and nobody has commented about his lack of mobility at all.

3. Randy is always mentioning pitch problems about people's singing, but never points out how scratchy Ruben's voice gets many times.

Last night (and let me start off by saying I hate pretty much all Diane Warren songs):

Kim Locke was "OK"... she kind of bottomed out on the lower register and had a few rough spots with her breath control. She has a nice tone to her voice, as always, and she is dressing much better than she was in previous rounds.

Clay was solid as usual. Yes, he has strange mannerisms, but his voice is awesome. He hits every note with power and precision. Really, his main problem is overenunciation, which is actually a good thing in a choral or Broadway setting, but it doesn't work for pop.

Trenyce did not do that great. I think she is a pretty good performer, but her voice just doesn't do it for me. It's too throaty and she has a lot of issues with her breath control. Also, did she forget some of the lyrics? If she didn't (and meant to pause in those instances), she sure made it seem like she did.

Josh is awful. He is continually off-key and his held notes are painful to listen to. His goofy facial expressions are even worse than Clay's. He has been bad for weeks now. And the fact that he completely ditched his country accent again just tells me he is a poseur.

Carmen is awful as well. She did manage to display a little bit of range but her vibrato is horrific. She just does not have the talent to stay around.

Ruben was good, last night was not his best performance, though. He just sang "ohhhh.." in several places where there are clearly supposed be lyrics. I don't think he forgot them, because he's done that before. He just kind of works a few more runs in there instead of singing the actual words. But whatever. The tone of his voice is excellent as always, and his control is also very good. He's not a terribly exciting performer (what's with the arm gestures?) but his voice makes up for it.

Prediction: Carmen or Trenyce this week, then the other one, followed by Kim Locke, then Josh. Locke is far more talented but Josh hasn't even been in the bottom three yet. The audience seems to love him and the judges go easy on him too. I don't think his Marine status can carry him past Clay or Ruben, though.

I've noticed that too. I think Clay would be perfect for Broadway, but I just can't see him being a pop star.

I watched this show for the first (and likely only) time ever, and I'd have to say that the only person I felt whose voice had anything close to recording artist quality star power was Clay. Too bad he doesn't look quite human..

Ruben, Ruben, Ruben!

Man, when he did that Barry White thing a couple of weeks ago, I nearly lost it. I would actually buy an abum by Ruben, but none of the rest. I have very sensitive ears. :p

Clay, Ruben and Kimberley are the best of the last five. Hopefully Trenyce and Josh will get the boot next.

A lot of people don't like Kimberley and I am still not sure why. I think most people disliked Kimberley Caldwell because she came off as an insinsere bitch.

yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup. kim c was just... bleah. her whole fight with julia and it just seemed like she was not enjoying herself at all. her reactions to comments were so canned. the night she was booted, notice no tears from any contestant... unlike when rickey was booted (booted too early in my opinion) trenyce was crying a river.

as for kim l, she gave off WAY too much attitude during the semifinals round and it just completely turned me off to her. they've all learned to take the criticism well as america is watching their every move, and she takes it as well as one can, smiling and being appreciative. she has improved immensely, sound and looks wise (her hair was too much) but she can only sing songs in a certain range... she gave one baaad performance the first finals show which should have booted her off (darnit) but she has improved since then because she has stayed FAR away from the faster songs.

My take on it all, is that the judges are usually unfair. Simon far too often was pushing Carmen, while she sucked. Now that she undeniably sucks, it's good to know he's telling the truth.

Rueben's voice has been really raspy lately. I don't like it at all. And, he doesn't have quite the dynamic range that clay has. Also, did anyone notice him holding those notes forever? Hell he seemed like he wasn't going to sing, just hold long notes and use vibrato and note sweeps to try to lull the audience...

The reason they're pushing Kimberly Locke so damn much is because it wouldn't be politically correct to count all the women out of the running yet. She did alright, but nothing spectacular.

That's my take on it. I used to like Rueben, but lately his voice isn't velvet.

Let's face it, Carmen's fans weren't doing her any favors by keeping her around. She probably didn't even want to be there towards the end, she probably figured "Oh crap, another group of songs with people out of my league and another "What's up dawg, it just didn't do it for me", another "You look great I love your <insert piece of clothing> but you just don't have IT", and another "That was horrible, I wish I couldn't have turned you off" bashing from the judges only to have Seacrest tell the people to give me pity votes".

I've said it before there is great talent voice wise left but pop star? No way, well maybe I'm still bitter than Kim C got kicked off but honestly who is left to look at Opie? Beanpole? Chunk Trunks? Lard ass? Jar Head?. No thanks I'd take Kim C as a pop star any day over these others....they can fix your voice in the studio they can't make you lose 100 pounds, or give you a personality.
