I was wondering... Why is it so easy to elect a congressman/woman or president or senator... But so hard to FIRE his/her ass?

Have you ever looked at the Approval Ratings lately? Congress was at an all time low of 10%. 10%!!!

Why can't we say if ratings go down to 40% we need to do some firing... and if the hit 30 or 20% we just keep kicking them out till the approval rate climbs back up.

Seems to me, once these assholes get in ... They don't give a shit about anything else cause they know they can never be fired.

Think about it. Just think in YOUR OWN JOB... If your boss saw your sorry ass at only doing your job 10% correctly... For sure you would be gone!!!! Hell, if my boss saw my efforts as only 60-70% I'd be gone.

Really tho, just how low does it go before we do anything? Can we do anything to these losers? I think there should be a system in place to can these people for not doing a good job JUST LIKE THE REST OF US...

What happened to America's backbone? When do we say enough is enough? 5%? 2%? Sad man....

Yes, I'm ranting here... But I just wanted to hear what others think and what the hell, might change some people but I'm fed up with the system.
 
First we won't ever get above about 40% approval of congress from now on. Because no matter what at least two parties disagree with the majority party in office (lumping all independents into one party). So your scale is off. 40% is about maximum range and not firing range.

Second, those in power write the rules on how they stay in power. Until districting is a truely random computer generation, we'll have this problem.
 
I don't know... I think if we cleared everyone out and started anew, the approval ratings would go above 60% for sure.

But it's probably just a pipe dream and nothing is going the change.... True they do write the rules and all agree to easily when they should get more benefits and a fatter pay check.
 
on an individual level (for members of congress) people tend to like the one-three members they personally voted for. They just don't like most of the other members of congress they did not have any say in electing. So on a whole, people generally like 10% of congress because they are similar to who they elected whereas the other 90% are crazy summab1tches who sit on their butts all day and waste tax payer money etc...

There may not be a guarantee that the person I voted for (and got elected) will work well with the person you voted for (and got elected). If they don't care to work with each other, we both would give congress a 0% approval rating, but our individual person a 100% approval rating. We then vote again to keep our person in office because we like them. Congress continues to get a 0% approval rating... never ends...

Your Congressman sucks, but my Congressman is a cool guy that does things I support.

The approval rating for all of Congress is a meaningless statistic, the approval rate only counts for their own district.

Exactly. When you measure the approval rating of congress as a whole, you're bound to have a very low number, because most people think of all the idiots in congress, not specifically the person representing them. Approval ratings for congress are worthless.

Good point. Even if they balanced the budget with tax cuts, ended poverty and made everyone rich they still wouldn't crack 50%.
 
You are kidding I hope. It's the way it is because you wouldn't have it otherwise. You might think you do but you don't. Parties know they can run shit and get it elected because partisans won't vote against their own. It couldn't be easier for them.
