OK -

I got my passport when i was about 15 in 1997 and it has since expired. Still have my old passport though.

http://travel.state.gov/passpo...t/first/first_830.html (how to apply in person for a passport)

Says that you need:

1. Application (check)
2. Present Proof of U.S. Citizenship (see below)
3. Present proof of identity (check)
4. Photo
5. Fee $$$
6. Social Security #

Below:

Application says :

Previous U.S. Passport (mutilated, altered, or damaged passports are not acceptable as evidence of U.S. citizenship.)

Does this mean expired passports are OK?

I'm probably going above and beyond and should be fine - just wanted to know if anyone knew.

Yes, that will work. I recently did almost exactly the same thing. My new passport came in less than one week.
