Applying for a new job... does already having one hinder you?

I've been applying on and off for open positions because I want to find a better one than I already have.
Does it hinder my chances if I already have a job? Do HR people look down on it?

I figured that having a job and wanting to leave means you're a leaver... the work experience portion of my resume looks bad because I haven't held on to a job for more than 6th months (except for my current one) because I was going to school.

The higher the level of the job you are applying for the more important it is for you to be still employed.

Might make it awkward if they call in your place asking how you are as an employee. 🙂

But yea, already having a job means you do a good job (hopefully).

well then... I guess my assumptions were wrong. I'll wear my "currently employed" tag proud then!

i'm pretty sure it is illegal for your employer to comment on you other than your duration of employment and compensation details.

It has never hurt me. In fact, that's probably one of the biggest advantages, as it gives me the option to walk away from the possible offer if we can't agree on $$$ and other stuff.

It's like with women. If you have a GF, it's easier to get another because they see that someone wants what you can offer 😉
