It is such a PITA to apply for a job. You have to make an account with every company before you can apply..... yuck. So the company that I am trying to apply to now would not upload my resume. It says that the file size limit is 175K. My single page document in WORD 2010 is 505K. WTF?? Everything that I see about reducing the file size talks about compressing pictures. I have no pictures in my resume. Anyway to reduce the size, I don't want to make it a zip file because I don't know if they will be able to open it.

Copy and paste the whole thing to a new document? Word seems to like to store stuff you've deleted from the document in the file.

Try copy and pasting into LibreOffice, and then saving it (for LibreOffice you need to specify .doc or .docx by using "save as"). If that doesn't work, copy and paste into notepad (or equivalent plain text editor) to get rid of any extraneous formatting, and then back into Word or LibreOffice.

Resulting file shouldn't be that large unless your resume is literally a book.

Thanks, copying and pasting worked.

For some reason this board is slow loading tonight. I thought I was using my 28.8K modem.

Incidentally this document was started on a Mac and now I am using it on my laptop. That might have cause the formatting to be so large. It went from 505K to 20K.

Why is yours so big? Mine is a 2 page Word 2010 file (.docx) and is only 24KB. You should probably go the new document route and/or save it as a PDF.

I think it was so big because I started making it on a Mac. Then converted it to a word document. I had to fix some formatting on it. That probably messed it up. Once I cut and pasted it is now only 20K.

BTW, I still hate applying for jobs.
