Application Initialization Error - Not reading CD

Well, this is probably a simple solution that I haven't thought of, but here we go:

I just built my new rig:
Athlon XP 2400
Gigabyte GA-7N400-L
1GB PC3200 OCZ
Geforce FX5900XT
Sound Blaster Audigy(from old comp, works fine)
80GB Western Dig. Caviar HDD

LiteOn DVDROM Drive (from old comp...)
LiteOn CDRW 32x12x40x (from old comp...)
ZIP 100 (from old comp...)

Well, I installed Call of Duty with every intention of playing it tonight; however, when I went to play the game, I got the following mesage:
Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart the application.

Hrmm...
The CD is in the DVD drive, which I also used to install the game. So, feeling strange, I uninstalled it and tried it again. No luck. I tried it with Raven-Shield. Same thing. And again with Freedom Fighters.

I'm wondering, why would a DVD-ROM drive be able to read and install programs and drivers, but not be able to initialize them for a game? I'm guessing that it has something to do with drivers of some sort.

I've had that same problem with a different game. Turns out the DVD drive would install, but not start the game. The CDRW drive, however, would start the game just fine. I've been told that the DVD drive can have trouble reading the copy protection crap, but cdrw's read it better. Something like that.

Start the game with the cd in your burner instead of your dvd drive.

Tried it. It doesn't seem to work.

I have no clue why this would happen, as my old box (with the same drives) never had this problem whatsoever.

Could it be my IDE drivers? I use an NForce chipset on my mainboard...

Jacob

Tried uninstalling the IDE drivers and going on the mobo's....

nothing.

**edit**

I've reinstalled the IDE controller drivers. In the device manager, I can edit the PRIMARY CHANNEL and SECONDARY CHANNEL for the IDE devices. Should I mess around with these at all? I can change the Master and Slave of both IDE1 and IDE2. Should I leave them on BIOS default? Or should I mess around with the settings?

Jacob

Maybe try setting the channel on which your DVD drive is on to 'force PIO mode'.. and don't run it on DMA mode.. (helped for me)
