fridge is dead...
fridge part is room temp
freezer is blowing air...but icecream has formed a puddle at the bottom


any ideas on what I can do to preserve my food?? I took the ice cube trays out of the freezer and put them in the fridge...maybe I should move some of the other frozen stuff in there too???


 
gah...this isnt funny...I just went grocery shopping today...if all that food goes bad I am going to be hoppin mad...stupid landlord and her stupid 17 year old fridge

Fridge is shot. Or at least in need of some hefty repairs!

Best advice is to take your credit card and get a couple LARGE coolers with lots of ice. Depending on friends, at the absolute worst you could attempt to bum some space in theirs for a few days, though you'll still need a cooler to move your stuff around. Since it's the landlady's fridge, you can't exactly buy a new one. Chew her ear off about getting it fixed.
 
you guys dont realize how much food is in there right now...I think I have it under control...milk is swathed in frozen chicken nuggets and frozen meatballs..all things that arent cold and dont need to be in there have been removed...will call maintenance in the am

Unless you have a huge Sub-Z I seriously doubt you couldn't fit everything you have in one or two 128 quart+ coolers. Hell, you could buy 2 168 quart marine coolers from WalMart and return them afterwards!
 
Anything you buy, within reason, to preserve your food will have to be reimbursed to you by your landlord. At least in CA. If you rented the apt. with the understanding you would have a working fridge and it gives out you have to preserve your food.

ooh goody...this will be like the time I held out $100 when my washing machine went out...I put in a note in with the rent check that it was short that amount to pay for for laundering service...truth is I just went 3 weeks without washing my clothes 🙂

just got back from a trip to meijers...got a couple monstrous coleman coolers...and a boatload of ice...couldnt fit everything in there...but the important things are taken care of....thanks for the help guys :beer:

confuse so explain it to me, how can u charge landlord for that unless landlord didn't fix your freezer with in reasonable time? which is 24 hours after u reported the problem
 
Must not be a typical landlord/tenent relationship. If I did that I would have an eviction notice so fast my head would spin.

have you ever tried it? I was surprised when they didnt even call for an explanation...next up...buy all new appliances at my cost (I sell them) and turn in a bill for retail price...that should get me a few months free rent.
