That is the type of computer, not fruit! I know almost everyone here is a total hardcore PC fan, but I have a lot of respect for Macs. The G4 dropped 1,100 in price starting this new millennium! IT is a great thing I think, because I want them to be a rival to PCs, to drive manufacturers to lower prices, better equipment. Also, being a "once" Mac owner, I miss the super stable and quite fast OS! (Sigh) I have joined the dark side because I wanted more, cheaper software. Please don't swear at me or anything. Just giving you guys my 2 cents!
note: Are there any Mac supporters here? just asking.

Although I doubt you will get much support here for the "super stable and quite fast OS" I agree that price drops anywhere in the industry are a good thing ;)

Any idea on why the price dropped so much? I don't personally use a Mac but prefer the MacOS to Windoze.

I've used the Macs and school....I don't know how they were in the "good old days" but anyone that thinks that the current Mac OS is more stable than Windows NT is on some seriously good drugs....

ACK!!

$4200-1100 no thanks...I with draw all my comments...well except that one, because now I'm just feeling peevish towards macs.

They're decent machines, and at a reasonable price they may actually reclaim some market share. But did you really find MacOS all that stable or fast? It wasn't in my experience, not any more so than Windows. It's been several years since I used one, but I used to crash Quadras and Performas (running MacOS 6?) quite frequently.

Mac OS 9 is not really stable. And in fact, I don't remember any of the recent incarnations of Mac OS since System 7 ever being very stable. I haven't used it much, but in my very limited experience at worst the later Mac OSes were on par with Windows 3.11 (well maybe Windows 95), and at best they were on par with an average Windows 98 setup. However, it's not even close to Windows 2000. (I got my Windows 98 VERY stable, but it took some major tweaking and close attention to what kind of drivers/software I installed.)

I don't think I'm biased either, since I actually do like Macs, and was considering one for my laptop. However, inexpensive and stable, Macs are not. Plus, the OS is a terrible multitasker. Here's hoping for Mac OS X.

haha....but what about the "risk" processor? doesn't that make it go faster at a lower Mhz? because as you would know, mhz isn't the only thing to determine speed! just asking..

Check my Rigs. I've been running my G4 for 4 months straight. No restarts. If the software is kept updated (as with PC's) you shouldn't have any problems with a Mac. The machine does get used every day for gaming, internet, ICQ, Photoshop, etc. As for which one's better, they both have thier advantages and disadvantages. Just my 2 cents.
