Has anyone seen the benchmark results on Apple's website? AMD64 didn't do so well and I'm wondering if that is cause its running on a 32 bit system where as the new G5 processors are running on a 64 bit system. Are there benchmarks comparing AMD64 in 64 bit mode and Apple's G5?

Thanks,
Ted

It wouldn't be the first time they have skewed benchmarks to make themselves look good...I remember back shortly they were told to stop the Tv ads boasting fastest PC.....

Their test against a P4 shows the lengths they go to confuse, mislead, and out right lie.....

Take a good look at the setup I am sure something wont be right with the way the ran or configured the A64...

A quote for that article I find interesting :

Even Apple's 2-GHz dual-CPU G5 unit had a hard time keeping up with a single-chip FX-51 PC in most tests. (Tests were not exhaustive, however: Working with our sibling publication, Macworld, we selected four applications available on both platforms and then ran seven hand-timed tests. Our test suite, PC WorldBench 4, cannot run on Macs.) The new Macs aren't great values either, as the top-of-the-line G5 ($3549 as configured) costs about $200 more than the similarly configured Alienware Aurora. (Prices do not include a monitor or speakers.)

Yeah, I was looking at Apple's website and couldn't believe how poorly the AMD64 performed according to their "tests". I still haven't found anyone who's done comparisons using a 64 bit OS.

It's not, Apple's "64-bit OS" is just OSX with some 64-bit extensions. It's effectively just some patches that allow 64-bit compatibility, much like how games are still more or less DX8 with a few DX9 functions thrown in that make them count as DX9 games.

The PR and propaganda over at Apple is second only to that of the Bush administration.
