Just wondering why anyone would get a apple 20 for 1000 bucks when the dells 20 is half the price? i want the apple just for the looks but the spec are the same ( right? ) so i have to ask my self why would i do a dumb thing like that and spend all that money just so i can have something pretty to look at??

I believe the Dell has a 12ms response time also compared to the Apple's 16ms response time. Not sure if they are both measuring gray-to-gray or not though. My buddy has the 20" Apple and while it does look very pretty, the picture quality looks very similiar to mine (2005fpw). I need to get them side-by-side to tell for sure.

Apples (with the possible exception of their ipods) always cost a lot more than PC components. Their customers seem to accept it.

As for the 20" display, maybe the apples don't suffer from backlight bleeding like the dell's often do. That can be very annoying.

True, however you cannot do a lot of monitor tweaks on the PC with the Apple. Its done via OS.

Apple most likely checks each panel thouroughly in order to make sure that it is without flaws. They are all about appearance, just look at the stuff they produce. On the other hand Dell most likely gets all the panels they can, produce LCDs on them, and get them to market. They make their money by undercutting in price but shipping a larger volume. The return ratio to purchase ratio probably heavily favors the purchase to their benefit. You may hear about a lot of people returning the panels here, but I bet the vast majority of people who do buy them are uninformed about things such as backlight bleeding and dead/stuck pixels. As such they keep the LCDs also to Dell's benefit.

If you had $1000 to spend on an LCD, you could get the Dell 24" :p

Ha, for $1000, wait one month for some more price dropping, and you can get a 2405 AND a 1905 for mad dual-screen goodness (and possibly avoid repeated exchanges to dell, if the 2405's quality holds up).

Take that apple!

Aren't the two 20" (Dell and Apple) even based on the same LCD?

As people said, Apple seems to always ship a perfect display, with Dell it is so so lala. Do they still allow you to send it back unconditionally?

Also, don't compare discounted/coupon prices to regular prices.

Dell is pretty liberal about exchanges and returns during the first month, so you can get three or four exchanges in and hopefully get a good monitor.

As for discounted prices, well apples are almost never on sale, and dells are nearly always on sale, so the dell discount price is pretty "regular."
