I know that the hard drive isn't a user-serviceable part, but if I were to bring my MBP to an Apple authorized service shop that wouldn't void my AppleCare would it?
 
The local Apple Geniuses told me, unofficially, if you put your original drive back before you bring it to the store and don't break anything, they don't care.

Parasitic,

If I'M not mistaken, changing/removing the hard drive on your Macbook/Pro does not void the warranty. The Macbook manual even shows you how to do that...

The difference between the two is pretty significant. On the MacBook you pull the battery and then pull the hard drive out from it's compartment. The MacBook Pro requires disassembly of the top cover which involves removing 21 screws. Then you have to remove two more to get the hard drive out. The real problem, I think, lies in the way the cover snaps back on to the base. It's really easy to break the tabs that hold the two together if you're not paying attention and/or don't know what you're doing.
 
Yea, I'm still ok with the hard drive I have in my MBP. I'm actually not terribly in need of HDD space thanks to XSlimmer and VLite.
