Apple: You're not cool enough for an iPhone

on Macrumors some people are saying that their orders were canceled after their CC rejected Apple's/AT&T's charge.

Other people are saying that it is happening to those who tried to order more than one phone...

Basically no one knows for sure. I am glad I reserved it for pickup though.

same here. cant wait to get it! 🙂

Actually, its been held up many times that deliberate lies in your thread title is grounds for locking it.

Facetiousness and sarcasm are now banned at AT? News to me.

Also, its a well known fact that Apple does cultivate a 'cool' factor and elitist attitude with their devices, so my thread title isn't inaccurate.

And what he posted isn't even funny.

Yet very, very sadly true.

I shall relay a short tale of one of my acquaintances, though I know several individuals that laid out money immediately for the 3gs, then the iPad and most recently the iPhone 4 immediately as soon as orders were able to be placed, ranting and raving about it while frothing at the mouth like rabid animals. Every single word, email, facebook post, etc., might as well have been a viral marketing campaign at the behest of Lord Jobs.

That comic succinctly illustrates exactly how these people behave when a new Apple gizmo comes out.

eh, but there are people like that for a ton of products. The Xbox, PS3, Nintendo Wii, etc. Heck, the drooling and posts of "OMG DO WANT" when the EVO specs came out were pretty amusing. If it makes people happy, good for them.

why is it sad ? except for cost, I don't know of an apple product that I wouldn't want.

Shit, there's people like that for any tech product in general. While there's a LOT of Apple fans, there's plenty of others too. Remember how bad trying to find a Wii was? People were beaten TO DEATH for that thing. Such is life...

he is alluding to the possibility they dont even weigh the pros and cons of the next gen product and buy it regardless of its actual worth, which would be sad. chances are tho, they have read all the reviews they want to read, know the details of it and have made their mind up. whether they read apple-centric reviews and stuff is moot for this post.

100M iDevices sold. The company is mainstream these days, not the elitist magnet for "cool people" it was in the 90's.

Owners of the latest iteration iXxxx do often display symptoms of smug, normally associated with Prius owners.

This. I especially hate seeing hordes of white-earbud wearing people on the bus...not because they're using iDevices (had one for two years and other than requiring iTunes, the media player experience was pretty good) but because they continue to those those absolutely horrid stock earbuds. Some fairly low-end (<$50) IEMs would be a massive improvement on the stock earbuds but I can tell, with some people, that having the stock white earbuds is all about "I own an iDevice". The others I think are just clueless and probably haven't heard a good set of IEMs.

I make it a point not to wear my white Shures for that exact reason.

Maybe they just. dont. care?

If the sounds is good enough for them, why do you even think about it lol. The only thing more pathetic than someone doing something 'because everyone else is' is someone not doing something 'because everyone else is.'

As I was saying... just like lemmings.

Two analyst reports claim that a large majority of customers waiting in line for yesterday's US iPhone launch were repeat customers. According to Piper Jaffrey’s Gene Munster, 77 percent of those waiting in line already owned an iPhone, while Oppenheimer analyst Yair Reiner found a very similar 76 percent of customers in the same boat. According to the Oppenheimer numbers, the average length of time before upgrade was 14.7 months.

...

He points out that what's much more important than opening day numbers are the hordes of iPhone users who continue to upgrade as their contracts expire, despite vocal displeasure with AT&T service in some regions.

Or could it be that people liked their experience with their old iPhone so they want another? Conpanies can perhaps fool a consumer for a product, but it is almost impossible to get people to consistently buy a horrid/bad/broken product more than once.

Why not pull up the numbers on how many blackberry owners owned a blackberry before they bought their new one? And I am not talking about corporate phones. I guess RIM repeat customers are lemmings too? No, the quality of RIM's phones isn't a factor.

It will be funny to see how the tune changes when Android becomes the largest smartphone OS and they have a lot of repeat customers. You can bet no one will make any 'lemming' comment. That is reserved for the irrational apple haters.
