You'd think Apple's use of the word Tiger would only help TigerDirect....

I can understand why Tiger would be upset, they aren't worried about a negative view of their name, just confusion in general.

About two years ago I remember Radioshack releasing a line of A/V cables called Fusion, and they were all pretty and high end and whatnot. But at the same time there's some company out there named Fusion Cables, who makes high end car audio cabling. They sued Radioshack claiming people would become confused on the names, and won, and Radioshack dropped the name from the product line.

So it is a valid concern, just not in this case necessarily.

:) It'd be funnier if Tiger Woods copyrighted his name; then neither could have used "tiger." Didn't O.J. Simpson have a copyright on OJ?

no :p plus, apple has a legitimate trademark dated prior to the date tiger may be registering a trademark. that holds a lot of clout. when a trademark is registered, the date can mean everything.

i used to be a private investigator doing such trademark work. if a company has registered a trademark in 1984 or whatever year and has made products that support this name, it has every right to the name. any lawsuit that arises almost always holds up in court in this company's favor.

it's truly surprising that tiger direct did not even register a trademark for its name.

finally, as others said, tiger direct is poop compared to apple OS X ;)
