When the Time Capsule first came out, the 1TBs had just been released to the consumer, and the price was actually reasonable. Now with 2TBs at $220, and the Airport Extreme at $180... That is a $100 markup, not terrible for having an integrated solution that doesn't require an external drive or any fiddling to get Time Machine to work.

Still probably won't get one, but it isn't a terrible price if a person needs that much Time Machine space and a new router (a pretty good router at that from what I hear)

It is plenty big for your MacBook Pro, which is still ultimately your primary machine (with regards to actual important files) isn't it?

You get a Drobo to take care of your desktop if you absolutely want to start backing things up (we all say that others should, but actually being able to is just a little too costly for some of us) and call it a day.

If we're talking actual important files (music, pictures, documents, etc.) I already have a backup solution of sorts. I use ChronoSync to sync my MacBook Pro and my desktop.

At $199, is the 500GB one worth getting? I'm a bit hesitant on dropping money on it due to the fact that only one computer in the house (my blackbook) has 802.1n and that the lack of an external antenna port is a problem at my place. My current router won't work without a 7dbi external antenna because of the concrete and steel reinforcements in the building.

I'd like a gigabit/N router, so I was thinking of getting an Airport Extreme refurb ($149, or like $159 new with the EPP discount). Does it definitely work with an external drive hooked up?

Any chance it'd be able to share two different partitions, one HFS, one FAT32/NTFS, at the same time?

Or, with a 2TB Time Capsule, would it be able to share multiple partitions? 2TB would be a lot for just a time machine drive.
