Apple TV 2 + XBMC = WIN!

AppleTV is only 10/100.

Always forget about that 😛. But anyway, the point I was putting forth is that it could be an issue with the whole power line LAN thing and not so much the device being unable to play it. I'd be curious to see how fast it is trying to transfer a file over it.

Either way, it's obviously a limitation of his set up and not the box. 720P mkv playback is well known as fine on the ATV, 1080p stutters for some and is fine for others

Anyone else getting "dark" playback on their AppleTV?

I saw that XBMC has some colorspace issues but i also thought that H.264 was passed directly to the decoder.

Too bad changing the settings in the DB doesn't actually do anything.

With whatever the last build I got was, I have zero stuttering issues on 1080p streams. Largest file I've tried is 14 gigs - no stuttering. I don't mind 720p output at all; it's not nearly as noticeable as say going from a DVD to a Bluray disc.

Haven't noticed any color issues here. I did when I used Plex, but then I discovered that Plex was transcoding (which also rasterized the picture a bit). But for XBMC, it looks great to me! I've tried it on a 60" DLP and a 42" LCD if that helps at all.

Good to know! I should upgrade - is it complicated?

so wtf kind of cool shit can I do w/ XBMC besides play video/audio files I already have on my computer?

:lost:

So I picked up an ATV2 yesterday and I have been trying all day to get this damn thing jailbroken.

Greenpoison says their software will jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 so I updated to the current software and began trying to JB my ATV. Sometimes Ill get the try again button and sometimes it will go through and Ill see the complete button, depends on how I follow the GP instructions. But, anytime GP says the JB is complete, I plug it into my TV and nothing has changed. Anyone have problems like this?

...did you wait 40 seconds after the complete before removing the usb cable? (that's all I got)

took me more than few tries to get the damn thing JB...

Woah woah... what software did you update? The ATV2 is very weird and does not display the correct software version. 4.2.1 is something like 4.1.1 (something weird like that). If you attempt to update via Apple, you will get iOS 4.3 not 4.2.1.

Yes, 40 second, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, ect.

Great...I updated through apple, the ATV displays 4.2.1, so I guess I have 4.3.

So now I need to download the real 4.2.1 (or 4.1.1) ipsw and manually restore it, right? Anyone know which ipsw is actually 4.2.1?

Got the firmware on my ATV2 rolled back to 4.2.1 (4.1.1). Now everytime I try to run greenpois0n the JB either starts and then says 'failed' or the app crashes...this is getting frustrating!

I did the JB for the second ATV2 for the bedroom yesterday and it failed multiple times before finally working. But never did the app crash. It just said JB failed and to restart the greenpois0n app.

You might want to considering taking it back and getting another one.

iTunes needs to be installed for greenpois0n to work, FYI

I had the app crash several times and had to just keep on hammering it until it worked.

I finally got it jailbroken last night and got XBMC and a few other hacks installed. Now Im just pulling my hair out trying to get XBMC to work right.
