The 11.6" would be perfect if it had better battery life. My 1410 with similar specs gets 6 hours with the small battery, and that laptop cost 450$... I can just purchase a bigger battery (from the Timeline series), and I'll be getting 8 hours easily.

The nVidia graphics is nice, but unnecessary IMO. I'd also miss the HDMI port that my current laptop has.

Price is decent considering it has an SSD. And for those wondering, the 1.4GHz CPU is more than enough. I use a 1.3GHz Celeron SU2300 (dual-core), and it's fine for everything I do on a 11.6" screen. These things aren't meant to be your only computer.

MiniDP supports audio passthrough, but you would need to buy an adapter. On the one hand, combining multiple outputs into one small connector is really nice. They don't have to make room for DVI (dual link) HDMI and VGA, or even just two of those three. Instead they can use one port the size of a USB port.

On the other hand, you have to buy a bunch of freaking $10-20 adapters!

Until apple decides to close that profit loss loophole.

Also review of 11inch air, battery life is not impressive according to PC mag.

Wow, talk about fear mongering. Do you honestly believe that Apple will not allow the installations of applications outside the app store?

Seriously?

This is just a way to make it easier for the average user to find and install applications. That is it. They don't want shitty applications, they don't want pornographic applications. Does this surprise you?

The average Mac user has almost nothing installed on their computer because they don't know where or how to find programs. Now they will.

That's it.

You're right, I forgot the newer Macs had audio through MiniDP... (My friend's older unibody MacBook doesn't, it's annoying) A small adapter isn't that bad, at least it can do HDMI.

They don't want shitty applications, but if the iTunes App Store is any indication, we'll have lots of most excellent fart applications.

Apple get's 30% profit from apps sold on the app store. Apple loves money. It only goes to follow they will want to close the profit hole of being able to sell apps without giving them 30%. The reasoning will be exactly what you just said. Regular users don't know how to not use the app store. Only power users will want to not use the app store, and they can jailbreak.

It will be under the guise of security. Keeping OSX the most secure OSX ever!

Don't get me wrong. I think a repository system is a great idea. I just think it should allow for 3rd party repositories (similar to how linux works)

I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook Pro which also suffers from this deficiency. When I want to hook it up to my TV, I use an adapter that I bought from Monoprice that plugs into the MiniMDP port and a USB port. It then converts to HDMI with audio.

That's cool. However, I just use the poor man's method, a $2 analogue cable for audio or else a $3 SPDIF cable.

same, and i even have the current mbp which supports minidp audio/video passthrough. i spent $5 on my minidp to hdmi cable, and since i have my extremely long mini optical to optical cable, i dont really see a need to buy another minidp to hdmi adapter..
