I found the phone number I was looking for 1-800-sos-appl. I would try giving this number a call. Like I said before, you are more apt to get a helping hand from someone in customer relations than from someone in tech support. Also, remember not to snap at the person on the other end of the line. Not that I'm saying that you would, but I've been dealing w/customers for almost 10 years and the ones that are nice and treat me like a human being are the ones I bend over backwards and bend/break rules for. Also, if there is an Apple Store near you (an offical Apple Store, not a reseller or anything) I'd go there and plead your case as well. Sometimes face-to-face is better than over the phone.

Good luck.

all OEMs are that way

though if they left something out of your order (the airport card) you're entitled to bitch

I purchased a 2.53ghz media center PC from HP back in December. They replaced that computer at no charge with an upgraded 3.06ghz media center PC. It had an issue with a DVD burner so they have replaced it with an even better 3.06 Pavilion with nice specs. All of this at no charge/no shipping charges. A 2.53 ghz, (400 fsb?) 512mb pc2100, 120gb harddrive, g4 mx420 HP has turned into a 3.06, 1gb of pc3200 (800 fsb), 250 gb harddrive, radeon 9800 non-pro at no charge. HP has the best customer service.

3.06 at 800FSB? 3.06 are 533 FSB.....this just seems crazy...you must of been a valued customer....

Edit: I am still shocked about this...are you sure this happened :).....its like them buying you a new PC ...I was happy because radio shack gave me a $25 gift certificate when my cheap $10 pack of CD's all were frizbee's...but this is something else

and I am a PC user...never much of a fan of apple....liked Linux even better

apparently HP had made great strides in improving their customer service. my sister bought a computer from them a few weeks ago, and somehow it didnt come with a floppy drive. well, she is computer illiterate and hadn't even noticed but somehow they found out themselves and called her and apologized and said they'd be sending a 64mb key drive and a $50 gift cert. $100 worth of stuff for a $20 item, no b!tching involved, IMO a pretty good deal.

Well, Apple refuses a return on the product but promises to fix it. Well, if anyone wants this I'll sell it for $3150+s/h. Thats for a brand new laptop and an already purchased 3 years of Apple Care(cost me $300 bucks). I'll lose a few hundred bucks, but thats what would happen with the restocking fee anyways.

Here comes the clue stick!

A G4 or G5 or iBook or iMac or eMac uses:

-standard RAM

-standard optical drives

-ordinary ethernet

-ordinary 802.11

-regular hard drives

-even generic power cables

-slots are PCI, AGP, and PCI-X

You can upgrade the CPU, the RAM, the drives, the video card, etc.

You can install Linux or Mac OS. You can even install Windows under VPC.

Proprietary implies some sort of system to keep the customer stuck with one company. Apple HW & SW uses known (and frequently open) industry standards. Compared to the standards other software companies hoist onto the userbase that really are proprietary.

Do you also have this problem with car companies and the fact you haven't been able to stick an AMD processor into an Intel socket for a long time?
