Apple sold 1'000'000 songs over their music store (in a week)

Too bad the numbskull honchos of the music industry will *STILL* prolly keep their heads up their @sses, and ignore the fact that, with the pent-up demand for a more convenient and accessible way to purchase music other than the outdated "album" model, they could stand to make more money than they've ever imagined, if they would simply rethink their distribution and sales models.

Instead, they'll still continue to lambast their customers and potential customers, blaming them for what is their own ineptness, all the while price-gouging like there's no tomorrow.

And the artists, by and large, still won't see a dime.

That's good news. Hope Apple makes this available to everyone else soon. 🙂

Yup, this kind of thing has been discussed for years already. It's about fargin time someone has done it! I hope Apple makes $billions, buys up the record Co's and dismantles the RIAA for good. 🙂

Your commas are on the wrong side... It's 1,000,000....

I think in Europe they do things a little differently.

I know in some countries, they use periods as commas and the other way around.

Gee, maybe the RIAA will pull it's head out of it's ass for once.
But probably not.
I highly doubt that.

doubt it too - those RIAA dumbsh!ts couldn't find their asses with a compass.

edit: hope Apple buys them all out too, then put 'em on the streets

Wow, that's amazing.. aren't the songs 99 cents each?

That's a cool $990,000.

So that's about 100,000 songs per US Mac user?

And how many of these d/l's do you think were not by of someone whose last name is Jobs? I know Mac fans are loyal, but a million? Seems like a publicity stunt..

1,000,000 / 110,000 < 10

What makes it really amazing however is the small market they sold the songs to. When you consider all the Apple users in the world, then slice them down to OS X users, then slice that down further to broadband users, you've got a market of 5 million users max, which makes for very good sales in terms of precentage. Wait until Apple opens the service to Windows users though, they'll easily sell 10-20x that many in a 1 week period. Perhaps Apple is going to reap the benefits of solving the micropayment problem?

Hmmm I hate apple for it's computers and proprietary stuff, but the ipod and now this.... it looks like apple is much much better as a company than i could have imagined. I hope this will make for a good example to those dumb riaa people.....

Good. I hope that someone other than the RIAA is able to really take this to market and leave them in the dust still scrabbling for pennies and whining to the nearest state legislator. They've had ample opportunity and untold demand for a better delivered product but they insist on keeping thier old and out-dated price gouging marketing models.

Can PC users buy songs too?

Not yet..

You will have to wait until the end of this year when iTunes for Windows comes out. I'm really looking foward to it since it kills anyother MP3 player 😀
