All I can say is... Awwwwwwww. Maybe if they sold decent systems for a reasonable price they'd be in a better position. Instead they market toward people that buy computers based on what color they are and a see-thru case! :Q

Long live the PC!

This was posted last night but anyway heres my take...
How to get a free G4

1. Buy some shares of beat up apple stock for like 23 dollars...
2. Wait 3-6 month
3. Sell it for around 50-60/share
4. Buy a G4 or a Intel/AMD Pc

Terrible, just terrible.

hehehe

I agree with Robor, if they want to do good, then they have to sell systems for a fair price. Right now, they dont even deserve to do well. :)

Um, I don't think I'd ever pick up some shares of stock that just went down 45%...there is a reason for it.

The G4 is a nice CPU, and OSX looks to be a good operating system so they have two things going for them now.

They need to open their standards and lower their prices or something...get some competition into the market. Sure a G4 is a nicer CPU than Athlons or P3s, but lets see:

G3 550 + ATi Rage 128

- or -

P3/Athlon 1Gz + GeForce2 GTS

Funny thing is, they probably cost about the same :p:p:p:p:p:p

Can Apple really last in this industry? Its had a very staggered history...so has AMD I suppose but AMD is really strong now and its been a long time since the general populous really considered an Apple for their home computer. I don't know of _anyone_ personally that uses an Apple in the IT industry...

Apple is like in a world if it's own, ever see those apple people, they'll like try to beat you up for saying apple sucks, so there's always hardcore apple people that'll buy the product. A lot of chics buys apple because it looks cute, the key word is LOOKS cute, who cares if it works, it matches the room *doh*.

Anyway, I mean the top was like 110 and it's way off... like 75% it's probably gonna hit low 20s before you can pick it up.

There's a few reasons why Apple's don't do too well.

Everyone here lists price. Yes, that's pretty much right. Why should I pay 1300 for a PC that's the equivalent, feature wise, of a $600 eMachines?

That and I can't build one. Ever since I had a compaq I will never allow another computer in my house that's not built by me. That pretty much eliminates a mac.

I have NO IDEA why a mac would be better than a PC. Games take longer if ever arrive, no IE, any program that is on a Mac is already on a PC.. There probably is an advantage, but the fact that they don't advertise it, why should I even bother? Colour is not a reason.

Until Apple gives up their hardware monopoly and sticks to only their OS, they're not going to make it.

What did anyone expect? No one buys a new computer with exactly the same specs to get more colors.

Ghetto company ghetto stock. They need a new chip that will get them past the 500 or is it 550? Mhz barrier

Well I suppose we don't have to feel bad for Steve, he is still filthy rich. I'm not sure if I feel bad for the investors or wonder if they should have known better!

Anyone at anandtech could have told them Apples suck :)

That's enemey number 1 for me, I have notihng against apple, I like Windows better than Linux, BeOS, MacOS, or just about any flavour of Unix. I don't mind apple exactly, but they won't let me build my own system so I won't buy from them. I won't buy from Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway or anything like that.

iMacs are like Saturns... with Dent-resistent doors. They advertise all the aspects of the product, except what it's used for. "The World's First 3-Door Coupe." - Nice thought, but how about some leg room, in order for a person to utilize the back seat! I had some academic camp at UMich this summer, and they had really old Pc's, which would not print or do anything; and they had the iMacs. Minus the fact that the iMac is impossible to use, and is annoying as hell in every aspect of its existance; it wouldn't give me back my floppy disc until I turned the goddamn thing off!!! What is that...child proof locks?! G4..so what, all that processing power won't deny the fact all of the software will be incompatible with the rest of society.

Buying when the AppleINC stock is weak looks like it could be smart move. It is expected that revenues will rise to more than 30% in FY 00 (Sep.), and 20% in FY 01, as results benefit from new hardware and software launches.

Apple, which has been successful in the consumer market with its iMac computer, has recently also launched a new lineup with new fEatures. The company's high-end products, the PowerMac G4 and PowerBook, have also been doing well in professional market. ANd dont forget it will probably be even further broadened with the recent mid-range release called the "G4 Cube," that funky looking 8-inch miniaturized mini-tower. Looks pretty cool!! People these days just looking to buy a computer, not build, are thrilled by cute little pretty computers, even though they have not the slightest clue what's inside. But hey, who comprises the majority of the market...dumb ass consumers!!!

I guess they're saying we should expect gross margins to approximate 27%, as Apple balances its sales mix, component pricing pressure, and high-margin opportunities in non-computer revenues such as software, Internet access and financing. That's the basic low down. Good luck with your decisions.

It's been BULLISH since August...now what did we learn in those econ classes boys and girls? Picking up some stocks for just over $25 seems pretty good to me, especially when the stock was $75 at one point within the last 52 weeks.

I would also look into Microsoft...now that it's at ~60 (down from ~92 only 5 months ago) you can expect to see a gradual rise as Gates gets him composure back after those blows from Sherman antitrust rulings. Gates has also invested in a number of other ventures, such as cable and telecom companies. MSFT's many Internet properties are experiencing rapid revenue growth, both from advertising and from e-commerce. With the next platform "whistler" to be released within next 4 quarters, expect microsoft to gain a complete upperhand. They will fight the Sherman Antitrust violation ruling to the end! That's just what I feel. If you should know, I'm putting down 7-9 shares of Microsoft. My two cents! Good luck with all your business ventures guys!
